Neuromuscular characteristics and fatigue in endurance and sprint athletes during a new anaerobic power test

The purpose of this study was to investigate neuromuscular and energy performance characteristics of anaerobic power and capacity and the development of fatigue. Ten endurance and ten sprint athletes performed a new maximal anaerobic running power test (MARP), which consisted ofn x 20-s runs on a treadmill with 100-s recovery between the runs. Body Composition and Power Performance Improved After Weight Reduction in Male Athletes Without Hampering Hormonal Balance

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of a 4-week weight reduction period with high protein and reduced carbohydrate intake on body composition, explosive power, speed, serum hormones, and acid-base balance in male track and field jumpers and sprinters. Eight participants were assigned to a high weight reduction group (HWR; energy restriction 750 kcal·d) and 7 to a low weight reduction group (LWR; energy restriction 300 kcal·d). Energy and carbohydrate intake decreased significantly (p ≤ 0.05) only in HWR by 740 ± 330 kcal·d and 130 ± 29 g·d, respectively. Knee and ankle joint stiffness in sprint running.

Stiffness has often been considered as a regulated property of the neuromuscular system. The purpose of this study was to examine the ankle and knee joint stiffness regulation during sprint running.Ten male sprinters ran at the constant relative speeds of 70, 80, 90, and 100% over a force platform, and ground reaction forces, kinematic, and EMG parameters were collected.The results indicated that with increasing running speed the average joint stiffness (change in joint moment divided by change in joint angle) was constant (7 N x m x deg(-1)) in the ankle joint and increased from 17 to 24 N x m x deg(-1) (P0.01) in the knee joint.The observed constant ankle joint stiffness may depend on (co…

In some endurance sports, athletes complete several competitions within a short period, resulting in accumulated fatigue. Effects of an Electrostimulation Training Program on Strength, Jumping, and Kicking Capacities in Soccer Players

The present study investigated the influence of a 5-week electrostimulation (EMS) training program on muscular strength, kicking velocity, sprint, and vertical jump performance in soccer players. Age and sex differences in blood lactate response to sprint running in elite master athletes.

The effect of age and sex on anaerobic glycolytic capacity in master athletes is currently unclear. To study this issue, we determined blood lactate concentrations after competitive sprint running in male and female master athletes of different age. Eighty-one men (40-88 yrs) and 75 women (35-87 yrs) participating in the sprint events (100-m, 200-m, 400-m) in the European Veterans Athletics Championships were studied. A new method for the evaluation of anaerobic running power in athletes.

A new maximal anaerobic running power (MARP) test was developed. It consisted of n.20-s runs on a treadmill with a 100-s recovery between the runs. During the first run the treadmill speed was 3.97 m.s-1 and the gradient 5 degrees. The speed of the treadmill was increased by 0.35 m.s-1 for each consecutive run until exhaustion. The height of counter-movement jumps and blood lactate concentration ([la-]b) were measured after each run.
