Thermal, pressure and light switchable spin-crossover materials

This article reviews the most relevant chemical and structural aspects that influence the spin-crossover phenomenon (SCO). Special attention is focussed on the recent development of SCO coordination polymers. The different approaches currently being explored in order to achieve multifunctionality in SCO materials are discussed.

This retrospective essay is an attempt to span the bridge over eight decades of research on spin crossover (SCO), one of the most fascinating dynamic electron structure phenomena of inorganic coordination chemistry. The occurrence of SCO compounds of 3d transition metal ions and their characterization regarding magnetic, optical, vibrational, structural, and thermodynamic properties are briefly addressed. Temperature dependence of desolvation effects in hydrogen-bonded spin crossover complexes

The synthesis, crystal structure and (photo)magnetic properties of the anhydrous spin crossover salt of formula [Fe(bpp)2](C6H8O4) (1) (bpp = 2,6-bis(pyrazol-3-yl)pyridine; C6H8O4 = adipate dianion), obtained by desolvation at 400 K of the original tetrahydrate in a single-crystal-to-single-crystal (SC–SC) transformation, are reported. This work offers a comparison between this compound and the previously reported hydrated material ([Fe(bpp)2](C6H8O4)·4H2O, 1·4H2O), highlighting the significance of the thermal conditions used in the dehydration-rehydration processes. Insertion of a [Fe II (pyimH) 3 ] 2+ [pyimH = 2‐(1 H ‐Imidazol‐2‐yl)pyridine] Spin‐Crossover Complex Inside a Ferromagnetic Lattice Based on a Chiral…

The insertion of the [FeII(pyimH)3]2+ [pyimH = 2-(1H-imidazol-2-yl)pyridine] spin-crossover complex into a ferromagnetic bimetallic oxalate network affords the hybrid compound [FeII(pyimH)3][MnIICrIII(ox)3]2·X (ox = C2O42–). This spin-crossover complex templates the growth of crystals formed by a chiral 3D oxalate network. The magnetic properties of this hybrid magnet show the coexistence of long-range ferromagnetic ordering at 4.5 K and a spin crossover of the intercalated [FeII(pyimH)3]2+ complex above 250 K. The compound presents a light-induced excited spin-state trapping (LIESST) effect below 60 K although with limited photoconversion (less than 8 %).

An overview of head tracking integral imaging three-dimensional display using smart pseudoscopic-to-orthoscopic conversion

We overview a previously reported head tracking integral imaging three-dimensional (3D) display to extend viewing angle accommodated to a viewer's position without the crosstalk phenomenon. A head detection system is applied to obtain the head position and rotation of a viewer, and a new set of elemental images is then computed using the smart pseudoscopic-to-orthoscopic conversion (SPOC) method for head tracking 3D display. Experimental results validate the proposed method for high quality 3D display with large viewing angle.

Activation of the plasma contact system triggers several cascade systems such as the kallikrein-kinin system, the intrinsic pathway of coagulation, the classical complement cascade and the fibrinolytic system. Recent studies have shown a critical role of the contact system for arterial and venous thrombus formation and thromboembolic disease. In contrast, the function of the contact system for host-defense reactions and its physiological functions have remained enigmatic.
