Spin crossover phenomena in Fe(ii) complexes
2000
The behaviour of spin crossover compounds is among the most striking and fascinating shown by relatively simple molecular species. This review aims to draw attention to the various ways in which spin crossover phenomena are manifested in iron(II) complexes, to offer some rationalisation for these, and to highlight their possible applications. Typical examples have been selected along with more recent ones in order to give an overall view of the scope and development of the area. The article is structured to provide the basic material for those who wish to enter the field of spin crossover.
Thermal and Light-Induced Spin Transition in [Fe(bpen)X2] (bpen = 1,6-Bis(2-pyridyl)-2,5-diazahexane, X = NCS-, NCSe-)
1996
The thermal and light-induced spin transitions in [Fe(bpen)(NCS)2] and [Fe(bpen)(NCSe)2] have been investigated by means of magnetic susceptibility and Mossbauer measurements. The HS → LS transition in [Fe(bpen)(NCS)2] is detected at temperatures below 120 K (T1/2 [when the fraction of high-spin species γHS = 0.5] = 68 K) with a residual HS fraction of 8% at 20 K. The transition is fairly abrupt and no hysteresis is observed, in contrast to earlier studies (ref. [8]). The generation of metastable HS states in [Fe(bpen)(NCS)2] is achieved by rapid cooling of the sample and by irradiating the compound at low temperatures with light of appropriate wavelengths (LIESST). The HS → LS relaxation o…
Photomagnetism of a Series of Dinuclear Iron(II) Complexes
2009
International audience; The photomagnetic properties of a series of [{Fe(NCS)(py-X)}2(bpypz)2] (NCS=thiocyanate, py=pyridine, X=4-Mepy, py, 3-Mepy, 3-Clpy and 3-Brpy, and bpypz=3,5-bis(pyridine-2-yl)pyazolate) binuclear complexes are close to the antiferromagnetic response of [{Fe(NCS)(3,5-dmpy)}3(bpypz)2] (3,5-dmpy=3,5-dimethylpyrazine), which is characterised by two iron(II) metal ions in a high-spin (HS) electronic configuration . This paper describes the photomagnetic properties of a series of binuclear iron(II) complexes belonging to the [{Fe(NCS)(py-X)}2(bpypz)2] family (NCS=thiocyanate; py=pyridine; bpypz=3,5-bis(pyridine-2-yl)pyrazolate; and py-X=4-Mepy (1), py (3), 3-Mepy (4), 3-Cl…
Early life stress programming of NG2+ glia transcriptome alters functional properties of voltage gated sodium (Nav) channels and cognitive performance
2020
AbstractThe precise mechanisms underlying the detrimental effects of early life stress (ELS) on adult mental health remain still elusive. To date, most studies have exclusively targeted neuronal populations and not considered neuron-glia crosstalk as a crucially important element for the integrity of stress-related brain function. Here, we have investigated the impact of ELS on a glial subpopulation with unique properties in brain homeostasis, the NG2+ cells. ELS shifted the NG2+ transcriptome towards more mature stages, and these transcriptional effects were dependent on stress-induced glucocorticoids. The functional relevance of one candidate gene, Scn7a, could be confirmed by an increase…
2005
The Role of Microfinance in the Empowerment of Women - An Example of Sinapi Aba Trust, Offinso Branch-Ghana
2007
Master's Thesis in Development Management - Agder University College, 2007 Disempowerment among women due to certain cultural practices has been one of the main barriers to development in developing countries. It is a problem that developing countries governments cannot solve alone because of its financial implications. This as a matter of fact has necessitated the private sector or non governmental organizations to intervene in solving this problem. One of the means found to be effective is the use of microfinance and it is believed that with microfinance women can achieve some level of empowerment in their lives. The study aims at finding out whether there is a possible causal relationshi…
Pregnant, away from home. Maternal Health Care in Norway : Exploring migrant women's experiences of the maternal health care system in Norway
2021
Master's thesis in Global Development and Planning (UT505) This master thesis explores migrant women’s experiences with the maternal health care system in Norway, using a qualitative research strategy. It is based on interviews conducted with migrant women living in Kristiansand, who have given birth in Norway, as well as interviews with health workers in the maternal health service. The migrant women shared their personal experiences from pregnancy to childbirth whiles the health workers also gave their personal experiences related to providing antenatal and post-natal care. This was specific to migrant women living in Norway. My study adopts the ‘Quality of Care’ framework with a focus on…
The role of the voluntary sector for the integration of immigrant women : a case study of the Volunteer Central in Vennesla, Norway
2017
Master's thesis Global development and planning UT505 - University of Agder 2017 This thesis explores the role of the Volunteer Central in integration work of immigrant women in Vennesla in Norway, according to subjective experiences of immigrant women and impressions of Norwegian women connected to the organization. The findings are based on a six weeks long field work from February and March 2017. Qualitative methods were employed in the study: ten semi-structured interviews and participant observation in multiple activities. This research is important due to the increased immigration to Norway in recent years, and the challenges it brings with it in terms of integration. Since the volunt…
Hate speech against religious queer women : Socio-democratic influences on civic participation in [Oslo] Norway
2020
Master's thesis in Global Development and Planning (UT505) In this thesis, the topic of hate speech and its implication on queer religious women was studied. The thesis explored the socio-political and democratic issues of hate speech, and ensued to answer the overall research question, -How is hate speech towards religious queer women influencing their civic participation in society? -How is democracy affected if minority perspectives are left out of the equation? Evaluating the issue of discriminatory prejudice against religious queer women, the impact of empowering a minority group provides a more diverse understanding of identity and the positive effect on the society as a whole (Escoba…
