New insight into δ-Pu alloy oxidation kinetics highlighted by using in-situ X-ray diffraction coupled with an original Rietveld refinement method

2018

Abstract The reactivity of a δ-Pu alloy was studied under dry oxygen at different temperatures. Phase analysis has shown the presence of α-and β-Pu2O3, PuO2, as well as the destabilisation of the δ-phase. The oxidation kinetics were studied using in-situ X-ray diffraction coupled with an original method of Rietveld refinement enabling an individual monitoring of the growth of each oxide. The results have evidenced a parabolic stage resulting from the thickening of the α-Pu2O3 layer, in which a compressive stress state develops. This stage is followed by the linear growth of a porous PuO2 scale.

Sectoral Business Cycle Synchronization in the European Union

2009

This paper analyses sectoral business cycle synchronization in an enlarged European Union using annual data for the period 1980-2005. In particular, we try to identify which sector for each country is driving the aggregate output business cycle synchronization. Overall, the sectors that provide the most relevant contribution are Industry, Building and Construction, and Agriculture, Fishery and Forestry. In contrast, the Services sector, the largest one in terms of valued added share, shows a relative low business cycle synchronization and volatility, implying that it contributes only marginally to the aggregate output business cycle synchronization.

Broadband Fabry–Pérot Resonator From Zerodur for Laser Stabilisation Below 1KHZ Linewidth With < 100 HZ/S Drift and Reduced Sensitivity to Vibrati…

2015

Abstract Here we demonstrate the results of creating a two-mirror Fabry-Pérot resonator (FPR) that allows achieving the spectral width of a stabilised laser line below 1 kHz. It had low expansion Zerodur spacer and broadband high reflectance mirrors (99.85% in the range of 630 to 1140 nm). FPR was vertically mid-plane mounted for reduced sensitivity to vibrations and included in two shields inside a vacuum chamber to lower temperature fluctuations. Peltier element was used for temperature stabilisation at zero-expansion temperature. Pound-Drever-Hall (PDH) technique was applied. The signal from FPR was compared to ultra-stable signal (of about 1 Hz linewidth) to form a beat note signal. For…

Finite-time stability and stabilisation for a class of nonlinear systems with time-varying delay

2014

This paper is concerned with the problems of finite-time stability FTS and finite-time stabilisation for a class of nonlinear systems with time-varying delay, which can be represented by Takagi–Sugeno fuzzy system. Some new delay-dependent FTS conditions are provided and applied to the design problem of finite-time fuzzy controllers. First, based on an integral inequality and a fuzzy Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional, a delay-dependent FTS criterion is proposed for open-loop fuzzy system by introducing some free fuzzy weighting matrices, which are less conservative than other existing ones. Then, the parallel distributed compensation controller is designed to ensure FTS of the time-delay fuzzy…

Efficient stabilisation of a dihydrogenphosphate tetramer and a dihydrogenpyrophosphate dimer by a cyclic pseudopeptide containing 1,4-disubstituted …

2017

A cyclic pseudooctapeptide 2 is described containing 1,4-disubstituted 1,2,3-triazole moieties. This compound features eight converging hydrogen bond donors along the ring, namely four amide NH and four triazole CH groups, which enable 2 to engage in interactions with anions. While fully deprotonated sulfate anions exhibit only moderate affinity for 2, protonated anions such as dihydrogenpyrophosphate and dihydrogenphosphate anions are strongly bound. Complexation of the phosphate-derived anions involves sandwiching of a dihydrogenpyrophosphate dimer or a dihydrogenphosphate tetramer between two pseudopeptide rings. X-ray crystallography provided structural information, while 1 H NMR spectr…

Numerical 2D And 3D Simulations of a Spherical Fabry–Pérot Resonator for Application as a Reference Cavity for Laser Frequency Stabilisation

2015

Abstract We report on the results of a numerical study of deformations of a spherical Fabry-Pérot cavity that can be used for laser frequency stabilisation. It is demonstrated that for a precise simulation of the cavity deformations a 3D model has to be used instead of a simpler 2D model, which employs simulation on the symmetry plane of the cavity. To lower the sensitivity to environmental perturbations, it is suggested to use a material with a low density and a high Young’s modulus. We also show that the mechanical resonance frequencies of the cavity are mainly determined by the size of the cavity.

Microstructure and shear strength evolution of a lime-treated clay for use in road construction

2020

The results of a comprehensive experimental programme are presented for assessing the long-term microstructural modifications and evaluating the effects of microstructural rearrangement on the stress–strain behaviour of a lime-treated high-plasticity clay for road embankments. The stress–strain behaviour at different lime content and curing time was investigated by means of direct shear tests; microstructural analyses were carried out combining Scanning Electron Microscope observations and Mercury Intrusion Porosimetry tests. The results show that the stress–strain behaviour of treated clay is strongly dilatant with a high peak of strength, which increases with time and lime content. Furthe…

Development of a performance threshold approach for identifying the management options for stabilisation/solidification of lead polluted soils

2014

Two soils spiked with lead at different rates were stabilised/solidified using Portland cement and fy ash at different soil:binder ratios, and tested for their setting time, unconfined compressive strength, leachability and durability. A performance threshold approach was used in order to identify optimal management options for the products of the S/S treatment. Results show that soil texture, percentage of binders and lead concentration play an important part in the treatment, significantly influencing the performance of the resulting products in terms of curing, compressive strength and durability. Pb soil concentrations higher than 15000 mg kg-1 were found to heavily reduce the applicab…

Copper complexes of polyaza[n]cyclophanes and their interaction with DNA and RNA

2001

Abstract The complexation properties of Cu 2+ ions with the cyclophane receptors 2,6,9,13-tetraaza[14]metacyclophane ( L1 ), 2,6,10,13,17,21-hexaaza[22]metacyclophane ( L2 ) and 2,6,10,13,17,21-hexaaza[22]paracyclophane ( L3 ) are presented. Formation of mononuclear complexes in the case of L1 and of mono- and binuclear complexes in the case of the hexaaazcyclophane ligands L2 and L3 is observed. The coordination numbers around each Cu 2+ in the binuclear complexes involve at most three nitrogen donors for each metal ion. Cyclophanes L1 – L3 and several acyclic polyamine ligands are tested for their affinity towards double-stranded nucleic acid models of RNA and DNA. The binding affinity of…

Les contextes organisationnels d'insertion des jeunes

2011
