Negative feedback regulation of the yeast CTH1 and CTH2 mRNA binding proteins is required for adaptation to iron deficiency and iron supplementation.

2013

Iron (Fe) is an essential element for all eukaryotic organisms because it functions as a cofactor in a wide range of biochemical processes. Cells have developed sophisticated mechanisms to tightly control Fe utilization in response to alterations in cellular demands and bioavailability. In response to Fe deficiency, the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae activates transcription of the CTH1 and CTH2 genes, which encode proteins that bind to AU-rich elements (AREs) within the 3′ untranslated regions (3′UTRs) of many mRNAs, leading to metabolic reprogramming of Fe-dependent pathways and decreased Fe storage. The precise mechanisms underlying Cth1 and Cth2 function and regulation are incompletely u…

Myotonic dystrophy associated expanded CUG repeat muscleblind positive ribonuclear foci are not toxic to Drosophila

2005

Myotonic dystrophy type 1 is an autosomal dominant disorder associated with the expansion of a CTG repeat in the 3 0 untranslated region (UTR) of the DMPK gene. Recent data suggest that pathogenesis is predominantly mediated by a gain of function of the mutant transcript. In patients, these expanded CUG repeat-containing transcripts are sequestered into ribonuclear foci that also contain the muscleblind-like proteins. To provide further insights into muscleblind function and the pathogenesis of myotonic dystrophy, we generated Drosophila incorporating CTG repeats in the 3 0 -UTR of a reporter gene. As in patients, expanded CUG repeats form discrete ribonuclear foci in Drosophila muscle cell…

BIBO Stability Analysis for Delay Switched Systems with Nonlinear Perturbation

2013

Published version of a paper from the journal:Abstract and Applied Analysis. Also available from Hindawi:http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/738653 The problem of bounded-input bounded-output ( BIBO) stability is investigated for a class of delay switched systems with mixed time-varying discrete and constant neutral delays and nonlinear perturbation. Based on the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional theory, new BIBO stabilization criteria are established in terms of delay-dependent linear matrix inequalities. The numerical simulation is carried out to demonstrate the effectiveness of the results obtained in the paper.

Approximate analytic and numerical solutions to Lane-Emden equation via fuzzy modeling method

2012

Published version in the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2012/259494 A novel algorithm, called variable weight fuzzy marginal linearization VWFML method, is proposed. Thismethod can supply approximate analytic and numerical solutions to Lane-Emden equations. And it is easy to be implemented and extended for solving other nonlinear differential equations. Numerical examples are included to demonstrate the validity and applicability of the developed technique.

Robust synchronization and fault detection of uncertain master-slave systems with mixed time-varying delays and nonlinear perturbations

2011

Publiahed version of an article in the journal: International Journal of Control, Automation and Systems. Also available from the publisher on SpringerLink: http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s12555-011-0408-8 In this paper, the problem of robust synchronization and fault detection for a class of master-slave systems subjected to some nonlinear perturbations and mixed neutral and discrete time-varying delays is investigated based on an H ∞ performance condition. By introducing a descriptor technique, using Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional and a suitable change of variables, new required sufficient conditions are established in terms of delay-dependent linear matrix inequalities to synthesize the resid…

Convective Roll Instabilities of Vertical Throughflow with Viscous Dissipation in a Horizontal Porous Layer

2009

Published version of an article from the journal: Transport in Porous Media. The original publication is available at Spingerlink. http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11242-009-9417-y The vertical throughflow with viscous dissipation in a horizontal porous layer is studied. The horizontal plane boundaries are assumed to be isothermal with unequal temperatures and bottom heating. A basic stationary solution of the governing equations with a uniform vertical velocity field (throughflow) is determined. The temperature field in the basic solution depends only on the vertical coordinate. Departures from the linear heat conduction profile are displayed by the temperature distribution due to the forced con…

Stability andl1-Gain Analysis for Positive 2D Systems with State Delays in the Roesser Model

2013

This paper considers the problem of delay-dependent stability andl1-gain analysis for positive 2D systems with state delays described by the Roesser model. Firstly, the copositive-type Lyapunov function method is used to establish the sufficient conditions for the addressed positive 2D system to be asymptotically stable. Then,l1-gain performance for the system is also analyzed. All the obtained results are formulated in the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) which are computationally tractable. Finally, an illustrative example is given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed results.

Application of Wavelet Networks to Adaptive Control of Robotic Manipulators

2011

Published version of a chapter in the book: Intelligent Robotics and Applications. Also available from the publisher at; http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-25489-5_39 In this paper, a wavelet-based adaptive control is proposed for a class of robotic manipulators, which consist of nonlinearities for friction effects and uncertain terms as disturbances. The controller is calculated by using a mixed of feedback linearization technique, supervisory control and H∞ control. In addition, the parameter adaptive laws of the wavelet network are developed using a Lyapunov-based design. It is also shown that both system tracking stability and convergence of the error estimation can be guaranteed in th…

Fuzzy Sliding Mode Controller Design Using Takagi-Sugeno Modelled Nonlinear Systems

2013

Published version of an article in the journal: Mathematical Problems in Engineering. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2013/734094 Open access Adaptive fuzzy sliding mode controller for a class of uncertain nonlinear systems is proposed in this paper. The unknown system dynamics and upper bounds of the minimum approximation errors are adaptively updated with stabilizing adaptive laws. The closed-loop system driven by the proposed controllers is shown to be stable with all the adaptation parameters being bounded. The performance and stability of the proposed control system are achieved analytically using the Lyapunov stability theory. Simulations show that the …
