Étude et manipulation de modes résonants en champ proche optique

2010

Within the quick nano-fabrication techniques evolution and the increasing needs in low space and energy opto-electronic functions on-chip integration, studies and control of electromagnetic resonances of sub-micrometric objects are crucial issues. One aim of this work was then to improve our knowledge of the light-matter interaction. To this end, optical near-field experiments and complementary numerical development of models have been performed to study electromagnetic resonances due to light-matter interaction in sub-micrometric resonators. As an introduction, the first part of the manuscript presents the main phenomena involved in near-field optical microscopy and the used SNOM operation…

Complex rogue wave in the fiber optics

2016

This manuscript presents the generation of complex rogue waves related to nonlinear instabilities occurring through the propagation of light in standard optical fibers. Linear and nonlinear physical phenomena involved are first listed, in particular some of them by analogy with the field of hydrodynamics. The different forms of rogue waves induced by the modulation instability process are then presented. They are also known as "breathers", and they are obtained by solving the nonlinear Schrödinger equation. From these exact solutions, various experimental systems were designed by means of numerical simulations based on two rogue-wave excitation methods. The first one is an exact generation …

Theoretical study of microfiber resonator devices exploiting a phase shift

2008

Phase shifts within microfiber resonators can be exploited to demonstrate compact and fast-responding devices. Two examples, a sensor and a bistable device, where the origins of the phase shift are fundamentally different, are investigated. In the sensor the phase change originates from the change of refractive index of the medium surrounding the microfiber ring. This is a linear mechanism which translates into a change of resonance wavelength. Calculations of a silica microfiber ring immersed in an aqueous solution and operating at a wavelength of 1550 nm show that with a fiber 550 nm in diameter the sensitivity approaches a maximal value of about 1137 nm/RIU. In contrast to the sensitivit…

Nonlinear electrostatic oscillations in a cold magnetized electron-positron plasma

2017

We study the spatio-temporal evolution of the nonlinear electrostatic oscillations in a cold magnetized electron-positron (e-p) plasma using both analytics and simulations. Using a perturbative method we demonstrate that the nonlinear solutions change significantly when a pure electrostatic mode is excited at the linear level instead of a mixed upper-hybrid and zero-frequency mode that is considered in a recent study. The pure electrostatic oscillations undergo phase mixing nonlinearly. However, the presence of the magnetic field significantly delays the phase-mixing compared to that observed in the corresponding unmagnetized plasma. Using 1D PIC simulations we then analyze the damping of t…

Erosion of biodiversity affects the stability of soil microbial communities

2012

Anthropogenic activities have led to a significant modification/reduction of biodiversity. By observing this erosion, the understanding of the relationship between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning has emerged as a central issue in ecological and environmental sciences during the last decade. This relationship between diversity-stability-function has been extensively studied by plant ecologists, but remains largely unexplored for soil microorganisms. In this context, we studied the impact of an erosion of biodiversity on the stability of soil microbial communities (i.e. resistance and resilience) in response to two perturbations: a residual metallic stress (mercury input at 20 ppm) and…

Field Pea: development of genetic research for the selection of parameters to take into account to improve yield stability. Legumes were essential in rotations in the past, but they fell off during the 20th century. Maybe they will come back into favour in the 21st century thanks to its economy, agri-environment and food assets. Field Pea is the main crop of this family in France, but it remains underdeveloped because its unstable yield does not enable the farmers to ensure their income security. Therefore researchers should focus on yield stability. Modelling Pea remains difficult because of its indeterminate development. Parameters to take into account are many and their significance must…

Iron incorporated into food systems induces oxidation and precipitation. The consequences are a reduced bioavailability and a modification of other food flavor. The iron chelates such as Fe-bisglycinate and Fe-EDTA represent a possibility to avoid side effects, since the iron is protected. The inertety of Fe bisglycinate and NaFe EDTA for lipid peroxidation has been verified in oil-in-water emulsion models stabilized by sodium caseinate or by β lactoglobulin through the following studies: i/ increase of primary and secondary products of oxidation, ii/ change of the properties of the oil/water interface (tension and interfacial rheology), iii/ the stability of the chelate iron (Fe-bisglycina…

Influence de différentes pratiques agricoles sur la qualité et la santé des sols : étude de cas sur des vergers slovènes irrigués ou en agriculture b…

2011

Underestimation of soil properties and poor understanding of soil conditions can have many negative consequences, which results in quality or quantity of yield, soil degradation or even environmental pollution. According to importance of agricultural practices, our study focused on their impact on soil quality and health. The research took place from November 2003 to October 2007 in apple orchards in north-eastern Slovenia where two frequent agricultural practices were investigated: (i) drip irrigation on Calcaric Cambisol and its effects on structural stability and microbial biomass at Gačnik experimental station and (ii) combination of organic fertiliser (Campo guano) and liming in organi…

Lien entre la diversité microbienne, la stabilité des communautés microbiennes et le turnover des matières organiques du sol

2014

Soil microbial communities act as important agents of the biological soil functioning, particularly through their involvements in the transformations of biogeochemical cycles (C, N, P…). In agro-ecosystems, the diversity of these communities is affected by perturbations associated to agricultural practices, and the significance of these modifications in terms of preservation of biological functioning and sustainability of agricultural systems has emerged as a central issue in the environmental sciences. Whereas the role of biodiversity has been well studied for macroorganisms, in particular for plants; the biodiversity/activity relationship is still largely unknown for soil microorganisms. …

Frequency Stability Measurement of Cryogenic Sapphire Oscillators with a Multichannel Tracking DDS and the Two-Sample Covariance

2018

This article shows the first measurement of three 100 MHz signals exhibiting fluctuations from 2E-16 to parts in 1E-15 for integration time tau between 1 s and 1 day. Such stable signals are provided by three Cryogenic Sapphire Oscillators (CSOs) operating at about 10 GHz, also delivering the 100 MHz output via a dedicated synthesizer. The measurement is made possible by a 6-channel Tracking DDS (TDDS) and the two-sample covariance tool, used to estimate the Allan variance. The use of two TDDS channels per CSO enables high rejection of the instrument background noise. The covariance outperforms the Three-Cornered Hat (TCH) method in that the background converges to zero "out of the box," wi…
