Cortical Proprioceptive Processing Is Altered by Aging

Proprioceptive perception is impaired with aging, but little is known about aging-related deterioration of proprioception at the cortical level. Corticokinematic coherence (CKC) between limb kinematic and magnetoencephalographic (MEG) signals reflects cortical processing of proprioceptive afference. We, thus, compared CKC strength to ankle movements between younger and older subjects, and examined whether CKC predicts postural stability. Associations between personality, sports participation and athletic success. A comparison of Big Five in sporting and non-sporting adults

Abstract The present study investigates whether the Big Five personality traits are different among diverse sports populations. A sample of 881 male athletes and non-athletes completed a self-report questionnaire measuring their personality traits. The Exploratory Structure Equation Modeling (ESEM) approach is adopted to test measurement invariance and mean differences among groups. A note on quarkonial systems and multilevel partition of unity methods

We discuss the connection between the theory of quarkonial decompositions for function spaces developed by Hans Triebel, and the multilevel partition of unity method. The central result is an alternative approach to the stability of quarkonial decompositions in Besov spaces , s > n(1/p − 1)+, which leads to relaxed decay assumptions on the elements of a quarkonial system as the monomial degree grows.

Glass-forming derivatives of 2-cyano-2-(4H-pyran-4-ylidene) acetate for light-amplification systems

Abstract A series of 2-cyano-2-(4H-pyran-4-ylidene) acetate derivatives with triphenyl and 9H-carbazole moieties were synthesized and investigated, mostly for potential applications in organic solid state lasers. Synthesized compounds show remarkable amorphous film formation ability, tunable thermal properties (thermal stability varies from 190 °C to 387 °C and glass transition temperature from 94 °C up to 141 °C) with light absorption from 400 nm to 600 nm and photoluminescence from 600 nm up to 800 nm. Metal halide perovskites are currently emerging as highly promising optoelectronic materials. It has been recently demonstrated that fully inorganic solution processed CsPbBr3 perovskite thin films show good electroluminescence properties combined with high thermal stability. In this work, we investigate in details the amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) properties of CsPbBr3 perovskite thin films, as a function of the temperature and the trap density, modified by changing the CsBr-PbBr2 precursor concentration. On the enhancement of diffusion by chaos, escape rates and stochastic instability

We consider stochastic perturbations of expanding maps of the interval where the noise can project the trajectory outside the interval. We estimate the escape rate as a function of the amplitude of the noise and compare it with the purely diffusive case. This is done under a technical hypothesis which corresponds to stability of the absolutely continuous invariant measure against small perturbations of the map. We also discuss in detail a case of instability and show how stability can be recovered by considering another invariant measure.
