Examining stability of independent component analysis based on coefficient and component matrices for voxel-based morphometry of structural magnetic …

2018

Independent component analysis (ICA) on group-level voxel-based morphometry (VBM) produces the coefficient matrix and the component matrix. The former contains variability among multiple subjects for further statistical analysis, and the latter reveals spatial maps common for all subjects. ICA algorithms converge to local optimization points in practice and the mostly applied stability investigation approach examines the stability of the extracted components. We found that the practically stable components do not guarantee to produce the practically stable coefficients of ICA decomposition for the further statistical analysis. Consequently, we proposed a novel approach including two steps: …

OUTSTANDING DEVELOPMENTS IN THE ROMANIAN BANKING SYSTEM

2011

The Romanian banking system, after 1990, went through several stages in order to adapt to a new economic context, respectively to the necessary adjustment to the transition from centralized economy to market economy, and then, after the year 2000, adapting to meet the European Union’s membership requirements, and later, after 2007, adapting to adopt the euro currency. These events to which the Romanian banking system must adapt are known events. To which, however, join contingencies related to the onset and manifestation of the international financial crisis, events with direct impact on the banking system in Romania that determined changes both in the banking regulations, and in the struct…

Theory and regulation of liquidity risk management in banking

2016

Liquidity risk is now more important than it used to be in the past. The financial crisis has emphasised the importance of liquidity risk to the functioning of banking and financial system. The paper presents a theoretical and regulatory investigation of two types of liquidity risk: funding liquidity risk and market liquidity risk. The paper analyses the different approaches to measure the impact of funding and market liquidity risk in the economics and management of banks. The paper provides also an analysis of the organisational implications of the asset and liability management perspective of liquidity risk. Liquidity risk does not need to be covered by equity but by an adequate volume o…

Recent Developments in the Finnish Banking Sector

2000

In this paper we discuss recent developments in the Finnish banking sector. Our specific aim is to examine whether and to what extent recent developments in Finland are broadly in line with the trends common to banking sectors in Europe and also worldwide. We focus on developments in banks' profit and loss accounts, balance sheets and the market structure of the banking sector. In addition, technological developments are surveyed. As regards consolidation, the Finnish banking sector is a trendsetter. The emphasis in structural development has moved to cross-border banking and bank assurance. On the other hand, it turns out that it is difficult to track some of the trends that are believed t…

Chemical Proteomics-Guided Identification of a Novel Biological Target of the Bioactive Neolignan Magnolol

2019

Understanding the recognition process between bioactive natural products and their specific cellular receptors is of key importance in the drug discovery process. In this outline, some potential targets of Magnolol, a natural bioactive compound, have been identified by proteomic approaches. Among them, Importin-β1 has been considered as the most relevant one. A direct binding between Magnolol and this nuclear chaperone has been confirmed by DARTS and molecular docking, while its influence on Importin-β1 translocation has been evaluated by in vitro assays.

Influence of bacterial physiology on processing of selenite, biogenesis of nanomaterials and their thermodynamic stability

2019

We explored how Ochrobactrum sp. MPV1 can convert up to 2.5 mM selenite within 120 h, surviving the challenge posed by high oxyanion concentrations. The data show that thiol-based biotic chemical reaction(s) occur upon bacterial exposure to low selenite concentrations, whereas enzymatic systems account for oxyanion removal when 2 mM oxyanion is exceeded. The selenite bioprocessing produces selenium nanomaterials, whose size and morphology depend on the bacterial physiology. Selenium nanoparticles were always produced by MPV1 cells, featuring an average diameter ranging between 90 and 140 nm, which we conclude constitutes the thermodynamic stability range for these nanostructures. Study of [2-(2’-pyridyl)imidazole] complexes to confirm two main characteristic thermoanalytical behaviors of transition metal complexes based on imi…

2016

Abstract Imidazole derivative ligands are recognized as useful models for biomimetic complexes. Among the inorganic–organic hybrid complexes, those with derivatives of imidazole heterocyclic N-donor ligands are interesting for their framework. In previous studies of complexes with imidazole derivative ligands, our group reported two main thermally induced decomposition behaviors supporting two different systematic decomposition trends. In this work, one of these characteristic decomposition mechanisms was again found. The final goal of these serial studies is the possibility to provide, by the experimental evidences, a prediction model of thermal stability and decomposition typical behavior…

Harmonic balance analysis of pull-in range and oscillatory behavior of third-order type 2 analog PLLs

2020

The most important design parameters of each phase-locked loop (PLL) are the local and global stability properties, and the pull-in range. To extend the pull-in range, engineers often use type 2 PLLs. However, the engineering design relies on approximations which prevent a full exploitation of the benefits of type 2 PLLs. Using an exact mathematical model and relying on a rigorous mathematical thinking this problem is revisited here and the stability and pull-in properties of the third-order type 2 analog PLLs are determined. Both the local and global stability conditions are derived. As a new idea, the harmonic balance method is used to derive the global stability conditions. That approach…

Nonlinear Feedback Control and Stability Analysis of a Proof-of-Work Blockchain

2017

In this paper a novel feedback controller and stability analysis of a blockchain implementation is developed by using a control engineering perspective. The controller output equals the difficulty adjustment in the mining process while the feedback variable is the average block time over a certain time period. The computational power (hash rate) of the miners is considered a disturbance in the model. The developed controller is tested against a simulation model with constant disturbance, step and ramp responses as well as with a high-frequency sinusoidal disturbance. Stability and a fast response is demonstrated in all these cases with a controller which adjusts it's output at every new blo…
