Improvement of balance in a 7-year-old child through a six-week learning programme

2018

Given that human beings are constantly subjected to equilibration processes, developing basic perceptual motor skills, especially balance, is important. The main purpose of this study is the validation of the tasks and the progression of activities that form the learning programme for balance development in a six-week didactic unit of 12 sessions (2 sessions per week), for 6 to 9 year old children (1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade of elementary school in Brazil). The changes in balance after applying the programme are also analysed through a new measuring protocol using baropodometry. Although the session was put into practice in a class of 28 children, data were extracted from a 7-year-old child. T…

Static postural control in children with developmental dyslexia

2006

Correspondence to: Service d’Ophtalmologie, CHU de Dijon, 3 rue du Faubourg Raines, F-21000 Dijon, France. Tel.: +33 3 80 24 68 74; fax: +33 3 80 24 11 39.; International audience; The present investigation tries to better understand potential association and causal relationship between phonological and postural impairment due to developmental dyslexia. The study included 50 boys with developmental dyslexia and selected on the basis of their overall reading difficulties, and 42 control boys. Body sway during a quite standing posture eye open and eye closed on a force platform were tested in the two groups of subjects that were between 10 and 13 years of age. Analysis of classical parameters…

Can tongue position and cervical ROM affect postural oscillations? A pilot and preliminary study

2020

The tongue is considered an important part of the postural system, so it is fundamental to understand how it can interfere with the humans’ postural oscillations. The aim of this preliminary investigation is to understand the effects of different tongue position and cervical ROM on postural oscillations measured in a stabilometric test. Thirteen voluntary subjects were recruited (30.8 ± 9.7 yrs.; 173.6 ± 14.9 cm; 72.6 ± 15.6 kg) and tested in three different random tongue conditions: comfortable tongue position (CT), palatal spot position (ST) and low tongue position (LT). All tests were performed with open eyes. Stabilometric test were performed with a pressure platform. In addition, the c…

Balance Changes in Trained and Untrained Elderly Undergoing a Five-Months Multicomponent Training Program

2016

Balance is a main focus of elderly activity programs which can be assessed by functional tests or stabilometry platforms. Our study aims to compare balance-changes in trained (TRA) and untrained (UNT) elderly following a 5-month Multi-Component Training Program (MCTP), twice a week, one hour per day. 10 TRA (>2-years) and 9 UNT (first year) performed the Romberg´s test (Open-Eyes 30 seconds/Closed-Eyes 30 seconds ratio) on a stabilometry platform (BT4, Hur Labs). COP displacement (Trace Length: TL) and sway area (C90) were registered twice PRE (1&2), POST (3&4) and 3 months later (Detraining: 5&6) the EFAM-UV© program, a Cognitive MCTP based on gait training and Dual-Task neuromuscular prop…
