Deducing the stage-discharge relationship for contracted weirs by the outflow theory of Malcherek

The aim of this paper was the deduction of a new stage-discharge relationship for a contracted weir, having a crest length less than the channel width, by using the Malcherek’s outflow theory. The average outflow velocity over the rectangular contracted weir was expressed in terms of the head over weir, the momentum correction coefficient and the ratio between the crest length and the channel width. This theoretically deduced stage-discharge formula was calibrated by measurements carried out for values of the ratio between the crest length and the channel width ranging from 0.3125 to 0.9375. Labour negotiations usually take place during formal, official and visible meetings. Meanwhile, they can also be hidden, when negotiators decide or accept to meet away from sight of management and employees. In this article, we draw upon Goffman’s dramaturgical perspective (Goffman, 1959) applied to labour bargaining (Friedman, 1994) to shed light upon the hidden part of the negotiation of downsizing programmes. During these episodes, the outcome of the bargaining process is uncertain. In this context, the role played by secret encounters in achieving a satisfying agreement appears crucial.

Emissions from metal mining activities are known to deteriorate the quality of aquatic habitats and impair the condition and reproductive potential of fish. Metal extraction by biomining methods has been considered to cause fewer emissions, but for example in Finland, the impacts of a bioheapleaching technology utilizing metal mine on the local freshwaters have been substantial. Objective The objective of this study is to assess the quality of life (QOL) of cancer patients and their family members over 1-year period post therapy. Methods We evaluated QOL in cancer patients (N = 161) (Short Form-8 Health Survey (SF-8), European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer 30- Item Core Quality of Life Questionnaire (EORTC QLQ-C30)), their partners (N = 110) (SF-8), and their children (N = 115) (KIDSCREEN-27) using a longitudinal design (t1: post therapy, t2: 6 months after t1, t3: 12 months after t1). Heart failure (HF) is framed in one of the types of cardiovascular diseases; it consists of an acute and chronic form. The disease can evolve slowly from asymptomatic left ventricular dysfunction, to a state of severe disability, presenting a wide prevalence in the population around 10% in people over 70 years old. More than three-quarters of the deaths from this pathology normally occur in low or middle-income countries. We have studied the possible involvement of circadian oscillator(s) in the photoperiodic timer controlling seasonal responses by tracing Drosophila montana females' diapause induction in constant darkness and in a classical Nanda-Hamner experiment.
