Port-wine stain (PWS) is a benign capillary malformation that most commonly occurs in the head and neck. It is present at birth and progresses over time. It is formed by progressive dilatation of post-capillary venules and is associated with hypertrophy and nodularity with increasing age, leading to cosmetic disfigurement and psychological aggravation. It is caused by genetic mosaicism in GNAQ and GNA11 genes. Histopathology is the gold standard for assessment of PWS but it is invasive and may cause scarring. The spectrophotometric methods of Kind et al. and Kleihauer et al. were checked by more than 900 experiments on 85 blood stains on different material (cotton, nyltest and paper) from native and citrate blood, aged at room temperature up to 5 years. As a result, the variation of values within one age-group exceeded the differences between the values of samples of different age. Therefore, both methods are thought to be unsuitable for the estimation of blood stain age in practical forensic medicine, although the general trend described by the above authors could be confirmed.

A series of 20 consecutive patients with an osteosarcoma of the jaws has been evaluated with regard to possible professional diagnostic delay. When set at an arbitrarily chosen period beyond three months, professional delay occurred in 15 patients, the mean being 21 months and the median 11 months. In five of the 15 patients a wrong diagnosis has been rendered on the biopsy specimen, being fibrous dysplasia (2x), osteoma (2x) and, in case of palatomaxillary swelling, pleomorphic adenoma (1x). Building on this notion, we predicted that the ongoing coronavirus pandemic can affect attitudes toward foreign nationalities. We explored the intergroup consequences of the current epidemiological situation in two studies involving a total of 652 participants. We sought to develop a protocol to isolate and culture porcine Wirsung duct cells in order to determine their potency to differentiate into insulin-expressing beta-like cells. The porcine Wirsung duct isolated by a surgical microdissection was digested with collagenase P and trypsin to dissociate ductal cells. These elements were cultured in serum-free supplemented media: for 2 weeks.
