Standard Model CP-violation and Baryon asymmetry

1993

Simply based on CP arguments, we argue against a Standard Model explanation of the baryon asymmetry of the universe in the presence of a first order phase transition. A CP-asymmetry is found in the reflection coefficients of quarks hitting the phase boundary created during the electroweak transition. The problem is analyzed both in an academic zero temperature case and in the realistic finite temperature one. The building blocks are similar in both cases: Kobayashi-Maskawa CP-violation, CP-even phases in the reflection coefficients of quarks, and physical transitions due to fermion self-energies. In both cases an effect is present at order $\alpha_W^2$ in rate. A standard GIM behaviour is f…

New signatures of flavor violating Higgs couplings

2016

We explore several novel LHC signatures arising from quark or lepton flavor violating couplings in the Higgs sector, and we constrain such couplings using LHC data. Since the largest signals are possible in channels involving top quarks or tau leptons, we consider in particular the following flavor violating processes: (1) $pp \to thh$ (top plus di-Higgs final state) arising from a dimension six coupling of up-type quarks to three insertions of the Higgs field. We develop a search strategy for this final state and demonstrate that detection is possible at the high luminosity LHC if flavor violating top--up--Higgs couplings are not too far below the current limit. (2) $pp \to tH^0$, where $H…

Measurement of the electric charge of the top quark intt¯events

2014

We present a measurement of the electric charge of top quarks using t (t) over bar events produced in p (p) over bar collisions at the Tevatron. The analysis is based on fully reconstructed t (t) over bar pairs in lepton + jets final states. Using data corresponding to 5.3 fb(-1) of integrated luminosity, we exclude the hypothesis that the top quark has a charge of Q = -4/3e at a significance greater than 5 standard deviations. We also place an upper limit of 0.46 on the fraction of such quarks that can be present in an admixture with the standard model top quarks (Q = +2/3e) at a 95% confidence level.

Measurement of the top quark mass in the lepton+jets channel using the ideogram method

2007

A measurement of the top quark mass using events with one charged lepton, missing transverse energy, and jets in the final state, collected by the D0 detector from p-pbar collisions at sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron collider, is presented. A constrained fit is used to fully reconstruct the kinematics of the events. For every event a top quark mass likelihood is calculated taking into account all possible jet assignments and the probability that an event is signal or background. Lifetime-based identification of b jets is employed to enhance the separation between t-tbar signal and background from other physics processes and to improve the assignment of the observed jets to the q…

Search for pair production of the scalar top quark in muon+tau final states

2012

We present a search for the pair production of scalar top quarks ($\tilde{t}_{1}$), the lightest supersymmetric partners of the top quarks, in $p\bar{p}$ collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 1.96 TeV, using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of {7.3 $fb^{-1}$} collected with the \dzero experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. Each scalar top quark is assumed to decay into a $b$ quark, a charged lepton, and a scalar neutrino ($\tilde{\nu}$). We investigate final states arising from $\tilde{t}_{1} \bar{\tilde{t}_{1}} \rightarrow b\bar{b}\mu\tau \tilde{\nu} \tilde{\nu}$ and $\tilde{t}_{1} \bar{\tilde{t}_{1}} \rightarrow b\bar{b}\tau\tau \tilde{\nu} \tilde{\nu}$. With no si…

Search for the neutral current top quark decayt→Zcusing the ratio ofZ-boson+4  jetstoW-boson+4  jetsproduction

2009

We have used the Collider Detector at Fermilab (CDF II) to search for the flavor-changing neutral-current (FCNC) top quark decay t {yields} Zc using a technique employing ratios of W and Z production, measured in p{bar p} data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.52 fb{sup -1}. The analysis uses a comparison of two decay chains, p{bar p} {yields} t{bar t} {yields} WbWb {yields} {ell}{nu}bjjb and p{bar p} {yields} t{bar t} {yields} ZcWb {yields} {ell}{ell}cjjb, to cancel systematic uncertainties in acceptance, efficiency, and luminosity. We validate the modeling of acceptance and efficiency for lepton identification over the multi-year dataset using another ratio of W and Z product…

Improved Vcs determination using precise lattice QCD form factors for D→Kℓν

2021

We provide a 0.8%-accurate determination of Vcs from combining experimental results for the differential rate of D→K semileptonic decays with precise form factors that we determine from lattice QCD. This is the first time that Vcs has been determined with an accuracy that allows its difference from 1 to be seen. Our lattice QCD calculation uses the highly improved staggered quark (HISQ) action for all valence quarks on gluon field configurations generated by the MILC Collaboration that include the effect of u, d, s, and c HISQ quarks in the sea. We use eight gluon field ensembles with five values of the lattice spacing ranging from 0.15 fm to 0.045 fm and include results with physical u/d q…

Search for Neutral Higgs Bosons in Multi-b-Jet Events inpp¯Collisions ats=1.96  TeV

2008

Data recorded by the D0 experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider are analyzed to search for neutral Higgs bosons produced in association with b quarks. This production mode can be enhanced in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). The search is performed in the three b quark channel using multijet triggered events corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1 fb(-1). No statistically significant excess of events with respect to the predicted background is observed and limits are set in the MSSM parameter space.

Search for neutral supersymmetric higgs bosons in multijet events at s=1.96TeV

2005

Made available in DSpace on 2022-04-28T20:06:00Z (GMT). No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2005-10-07 We have performed a search for neutral Higgs bosons produced in association with bottom quarks in pp collisions, using 260pb-1 of data collected with the D0 detector in Run II of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider. The cross sections for these processes are enhanced in many extensions of the standard model (SM), such as in its minimal supersymmetric extension at large tanâ□¡Î. The results of our analysis agree with expectations from the SM, and we use our measurements to set upper limits on the production of neutral Higgs bosons in the mass range of 90 to 150 GeV. © 2005 The American Ph…
