New physics implication of Higgs precision measurements

2018

Studying the properties of the Higgs boson can be an important window to explore the physics beyond the Standard Model (SM). In this work, we present studies on the implications of the Higgs precision measurements at future Higgs Factories. We perform a global fit to various Higgs search channels to obtain the 95 % C.L. constraints on the model parameter spaces of Two Higgs Double Model (2HDM) and Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). In the 2HDM, we analyze tree level effects as well as one-loop contributions from the heavy Higgs bosons. The strong constraints on $\cos(\beta-\alpha)$, heavy Higgs masses and their mass splitting are complementary to direct search of the LHC as well …

Status after the first LHC run: Looking for new directions in the physics landscape

2015

The LHC data have confirmed the Standard Model as the correct theory at the electroweak scale. It successfully explains the experimental results with high precision and all its ingredients, including the Higgs boson, have been finally verified. At the same time, the negative searches for signals of new phenomena challenge our previous theoretical wisdom on new-physics scenarios.

Improved tau-lepton tools for Higgs boson hunting

2014

In this work, we use the results from Higgs searches in the $\gamma\gamma$ and $\tau\tau$ decay channels at LHC and indirect bounds as BR$(B \to X_s \gamma)$ to constrain the parameter space of a generic MSSM Higgs sector. In particular, we include the latest CMS results that look for additional Higgs states with masses up to 1 TeV. We show that the $\tau \tau$ channel is the best and most accurate weapon in the hunt for new Higgs states beyond the Standard Model. We obtain that present experimental results rule out additional neutral Higgs bosons in a generic MSSM below 300 GeV for any value of $\tan \beta$ and, for instance, values of $\tan \beta$ above 30 are only possible for Higgs mass…

Search for minimal supergravity in single-electron events with jets and large missing transverse energy inpp¯collisions ats=1.8TeV

2002

We describe a search for evidence of minimal supergravity (MSUGRA) in 92.7 pb(-1) of data collected with the D empty set detector at the Fermilab Tevatron p (p) over bar collider at roots=1.8 TeV. Events with a single electron, four or more jets, and large missing transverse energy were used in this search. The major backgrounds are from W+jets, misidentified multijet, t (t) over bar, and WW production. We observe no excess above the expected number of background events in our data. A new limit in terms of MSUGRA model parameters is obtained.

Search for the signal of monotop production at the early LHC

2011

We investigate the potential of the early LHC to discover the signal of monotops, which can be decay products of some resonances in models such as R-parity violating SUSY or SU(5), etc. We show how to constrain the parameter space of the models by the present data of $Z$ boson hadronic decay branching ratio, $K^0-\bar{K^0}$ mixing and dijet productions at the LHC. Then, we study the various cuts imposed on the events, reconstructed from the hadronic final states, to suppress backgrounds and increase the significance in detail. And we find that in the hadronic mode the information from the missing transverse energy and reconstructed resonance mass distributions can be used to specify the mas…

LHC constraints on two-Higgs doublet models

2013

A new Higgs-like boson with mass around 126 GeV has recently been discovered at the LHC. The available data on this new particle is analyzed within the context of two-Higgs doublet models without tree-level flavour-changing neutral currents. Keeping the generic Yukawa structure of the Aligned Two-Higgs Doublet Model framework, we study the implications of the LHC data on the allowed scalar spectrum. We analyze both the CP-violating and CP-conserving cases, and a few particular limits with a reduced number of free parameters, such as the usual models based on discrete Z(2) symmetries.

Probing Higgs-portal dark matter with vector-boson fusion

2020

We constrain the Higgs-portal model employing the vector-boson fusion channel at the LHC. In particular, we include the phenomenologically interesting parameter region near the Higgs resonance, where the Higgs-boson mass is close to the threshold for dark-matter production and a running-width prescription has to be employed for the Higgs-boson propagator. Limits for the Higgs-portal coupling as a function of the dark-matter mass are derived from the CMS search for invisible Higgs-boson decays in vector-boson fusion at 13 TeV. Furthermore, we perform projections for the 14 TeV HL-LHC and the 27 TeV HE-LHC taking into account a realistic estimate of the systematic uncertainties. The respectiv…

Towards a general analysis of LHC data within two-Higgs-doublet models

2013

The data accumulated so far confirm the Higgs-like nature of the new boson discovered at the LHC. The Standard Model Higgs hypothesis is compatible with the collider results and no significant deviations from the Standard Model have been observed neither in the flavour sector nor in electroweak precision observables. We update the LHC and Tevatron constraints on CP-conserving two-Higgs-doublet models without tree-level flavour-changing neutral currents. While the relative sign between the top Yukawa and the gauge coupling of the 126 GeV Higgs is found be the same as in the SM, at 90% CL, there is a sign degeneracy in the determination of its bottom and tau Yukawa couplings. This results in …

Eviction of a 125 GeV “heavy”-Higgs from the MSSM

2013

We prove that the present experimental constraints are already enough to rule out the possibility of the similar to 125 GeV Higgs found at LHC being the second lightest Higgs in a general MSSM context, even with explicit CP violation in the Higgs potential. Contrary to previous studies, we are able to eliminate this possibility analytically, using simple expressions for a relatively small number of observables. We show that the present LHC constraints on the diphoton signal strength, tau tau production through Higgs and BR(B -> X-s gamma) are enough to preclude the possibility of H-2 being the observed Higgs with m(H) similar or equal to 125 GeV within an MSSM context, without leaving room …

How to pin down theCPquantum numbers of a Higgs boson in itsτdecays at the LHC

2011

We investigate how the $CP$ quantum numbers of a neutral Higgs boson or spin-zero resonance $\ensuremath{\Phi}$, produced at the CERN Large Hadron Collider, can be determined in its $\ensuremath{\tau}$-pair decay mode $\ensuremath{\Phi}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\tau}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\tau}}^{+}$. We use a method [S. Berge and W. Bernreuther, Phys. Lett. B 671, 470 (2009).] based on the distributions of two angles and apply it to the major 1-prong $\ensuremath{\tau}$ decays. We show for the resulting dilepton, lepton-pion, and two-pion final states that appropriate selection cuts significantly enhance the discriminating power of these observables. From our analysis we…
