Thermal conductance of thin film YIG determined using Bayesian statistics

Thin film YIG (${\mathrm{Y}}_{3}{\mathrm{Fe}}_{5}{\mathrm{O}}_{12}$) is a prototypical material for experiments on thermally generated pure spin currents and the spin Seebeck effect. The $3\ensuremath{\omega}$ method is an established technique to measure the cross-plane thermal conductance of thin films, but cannot be used in YIG/GGG (${\mathrm{Ga}}_{3}{\mathrm{Gd}}_{5}{\mathrm{O}}_{12}$) systems in its standard form. We use two-dimensional modeling of heat transport and introduce a technique based on Bayesian statistics to evaluate measurement data taken from the $3\ensuremath{\omega}$ method. Dependence of single-particle energies on coupling constants of the nuclear energy density functional

We show that single-particle energies in doubly magic nuclei depend almost linearly on the coupling constants of the nuclear energy density functional. Therefore, they can be very well characterized by the linear regression coefficients, which we calculate for the coupling constants of the standard Skyrme functional. We then use these regression coefficients to refit the coupling constants to experimental values of single-particle energies. We show that the obtained rms deviations from experimental data are still quite large, of the order of 1.1 MeV. Time-Dependent Reduced Density Matrix Functional Theory

In this chapter we will give an introduction into one-body reduced density matrix functional theory (RDMFT). This is a rather new method to deal with the quantum many-body problem. Especially the development of a time-dependent version, TDRDMFT , is very recent. Therefore, there are many open questions and the formalism has not crystalized yet into a standard form such as in (TD)DFT. Although RDMFT has similarities with DFT, there are many more differences. This chapter is too short for a full introduction into the wondrous world of RDMFT, but we hope to give an idea what (TD)RDMFT might bring.

Using an adaptive display for the treatment of emotional disorders

A preliminary study on the use of an adaptive display for treating emotional disorders is presented. This adaptive display (named EMMA) varies the contents that are presented depending on the emotions of the user at each moment. The application has been designed to help in the treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Adjustment Disorder (AD). The specific objective of the present work is to test the effectiveness of this adaptive display, specifically the acceptance of the treatment by patients. This work investigates the feasibility of using silicates contained in dust for retrospective individual dosimetry in case of a radiation accident or a radiological attack involving people not wearing physical dosimeters. The interest in digital image comparison is steadily growing in the computer vision community. The definition of a suitable comparison measure for non-binary images is relevant in many image processing applications. Visual tasks like segmentation and classification require the evaluation of equivalence classes. Measures of similarity are also used to evaluate lossy compression algorithms and to define pictorial indices in image content based retrieval methods.
