Collection of data in transplantation medicine is required to define ethical standards, to assess indications and contra-indications and to determine rules for organ allocation. Similarly, assessment of quality of the transplantation process and practice of transplantation centres requires relevant data in transplantation medicine. Apart from data in quality reports, Eurotransplant and organ procurement, any form of data collection is lacking in Germany. In this article the problems caused by this shortcoming are described.

Cervical radiculopathy caused by a soft disc herniation or a foraminal stenosis is a common problem. While symptoms from soft disc herniations have high chances to recover after conservative therapy persisting radicular pain or a neurological deficit are accepted as an indication for surgical treatment. The surgical technique regarded as gold standard for cervical radiculopathy due to a disc herniation or foraminal stenosis is an anterior cervical discectomy followed by fusion. The chapter will outline the indications for anterior cervical discectomy, the clinical and radiographic results as well as the potential complications and secondary problems.

Outcomes from 5 years of treatment with agalsidase alfa enzyme replacement therapy (ERT) for Fabry disease in patients enrolled in the Fabry Outcome Survey (FOS) were compared with published findings for untreated patients with Fabry disease. Data were extracted from FOS, a Shire-sponsored database, for comparison with data from three published studies. Outcomes evaluated were the annualized rate of change in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and left ventricular mass indexed to height (LVMI) as well as time to and ages at a composite morbidity endpoint and at death. An international panel of orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, anesthesiologists, neuroradiologists, metabolic pediatricians, and geneticists pooled their clinical expertise to codify recommendations for diagnosing, monitoring, and managing cervical cord compression; for surgical intervention criteria; and for best airway management practices during imaging or anesthesia. Purpose and Introduction: Dentigerous cysts are epithelial in origin and are the most commonly found cyst in children. The majority of these lesions are usually a radiological finding and are capable of quite large before being diagnosed. The standard treatment for these cysts is the enucleation and the extraction of the affected tooth. However, if the patient is a child and the affected tooth is not developed, a more conservative attitude should be considered. Unfortunately, many partial interventions carried out in the past created many complications due to the tendency of the goiter to relapse and the formation of adherences in the anterior region of the neck. A woman 72 years of age with a relapsing goiter and severe respiratory symptomatology underwent thyroidectomy.
