Risk factors for refractory Kawasaki disease: clinical records of the paediatric clinic of palermo

Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute, self-limited febrile illness that mainly affecting small- to medium-sized vessels and occurs in early childhood. The etiology is currently unknown, however it likely results from an immunologic response triggered by microbial agents, with documented genetic susceptibility. Intravenous administration of immunoglobulin (IVIG) is the gold standard therapy for coronary arteritis in the acute phase of KD; some patients do not respond to IVIG and coronary aneurysms continue to develop in 5%. The most serious complications are coronary vasculitis and aneurysms. 15% of these patients do not respond to IVIG (Refractory KD:RMK) and have a higher risk of aneurysms.

Background In the context of a public health physical fitness (PF) examination in adolescence, a countermovement jump (CMJ) and a squat jump (SJ) are two vertical jump (VJ) tests widely used to evaluate lower limb muscle strength and power, respectively. The main criticism of both the CMJ and SJ test is the lack of test standardization. Kinematics of shoulder abduction in the scapular plane

In this paper the kinematics of arm abduction in the scapular plane of 38 healthy experimental subjects is reported. The ratio of the glenohumoral and the scapulothoracic components of the motion were determined and the influence of the abduction speed and of the external load on it were investigated. The investigation of the effect of abduction speed involved all 38 subjects. Each of them performed one slow and one fast abduction. Statistical analysis showed that there were large differences between individuals, but that for any one individual the abduction process is essentially reproducible. Background Transarterial embolization (TAE) is an alternative procedure to repeat endoscopy or surgical intervention in the case of re-bleeding after primary endoscopic treatment. The aim of the study was to assess the Rockall score as a criterion for TAE in the case of re-bleeding after endoscopic treatment of non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding (NVUGIB). Methods Out of the 673 patients who underwent emergent endoscopic hemostasis due to NVUGIB, 111 had a high risk of re-bleeding having a Forrest I-IIb ulcer and the Rockall score ≥ 5. Although glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and proteinuria remain gold standard in the evaluation of renal target organ damage, imaging techniques and image-derived parameters allow for both assessment of renal function and estimation of cardiovascular risk. Enhancement in digital image processing permits dynamic measurement of renal vascular and intraparenchymal processes in real time. The most relevant in terms of clinical use to assess hypertension-induced organ damage are the renal resistive index (RRI), renal calcium score, and functional magnetic resonance imaging.
