Exploring Mergers of Galaxy Clusters in a Cosmological Context

We present results of an Eulerian Adaptive Mesh Refinement (AMR) hydrodynamical and N-body simulation in a ΛCDM cosmology. The simulation incorporates common cooling and heating processes, a phenomenological description of the star formation and supernovae feedback. A specific halo finder has been designed and applied in order to extract a sample of galaxy clusters directly obtained from the simulation without considering any resimulating scheme. We have studied the evolutionary history of the cluster halos, and classified them in three categories depending on the merger events they have undergone. Pre-main sequence stars with disks in the Eagle Nebula observed in scattered light

NGC6611 and its parental cloud, the Eagle Nebula (M16), are well-studied star-forming regions, thanks to their large content of both OB stars and stars with disks and the observed ongoing star formation. We identified 834 disk-bearing stars associated with the cloud, after detecting their excesses in NIR bands from J band to 8.0 micron. In this paper, we study in detail the nature of a subsample of disk-bearing stars that show peculiar characteristics. They appear older than the other members in the V vs. V-I diagram, and/or they have one or more IRAC colors at pure photospheric values, despite showing NIR excesses, when optical and infrared colors are compared. Chronology of star formation and disk evolution in the Eagle Nebula

Massive SFR are characterized by intense ionizing fluxes, strong stellar winds and supernovae explosions, all of which have important effects on the surrounding media, on the star-formation (SF) process and on the evolution of YSOs and their disks. We present a multiband study of the massive young cluster NGC6611 and M16, to study how OB stars affect the early stellar evolution and the SF. We search for evidence of triggered SF by OB stars in NGC6611 on a large spatial scale (~10 pc) and how the efficiency of disks photoevaporation depends on the central stars mass. The Sun as a benchmark of flaring activity in stellar coronae

The solar corona is a template to study and understand stellar activity. However the solar corona differs from that of active stars: the Sun has lower X‐ray luminosity, and on average cooler plasma temperatures. Active stellar coronae have a hot peak in their emission measure distribution, EM (T), at 8–20 MK, while the non‐flaring solar corona has a peak at 1–2 MK. In the solar corona significant amounts of plasma at temperature ∼10 MK are observed only during flares.To investigate what is the time‐averaged effect of solar flares we measure the disk‐integrated time‐averaged emission measure, EMF (T), of an unbiased sample of solar flares. Correlated optical and X-ray variability in CTTS

Optical and X-ray emission from classical T Tauri stars (CTTSs) has long been known to be highly variable. Our long, uninterrupted optical observation of the NGC2264 region with CoRoT allows the optical variability in CTTS to be studied with unprecedented accuracy and time coverage. Two short Chandra observations obtained during the CoRoT pointing with a separation of 16 days allow us to study whether there is a correlation between optical and X-ray variability on this timescale, thus probing the physical mechanisms driving the variability in both bands. Results from DROXO. II. - [Ne II] and X-ray emission from Rho Ophiuchi young stellar objects

The infrared [Ne II] and [Ne III] fine structure lines at 12.81um and 15.55um are predicted to trace the circumstellar disk gas subject to X-ray heating and ionization. We investigate the origin of these lines by comparing observations with models of X-ray irradiated disks and by searching for empirical correlations between the line luminosities and stellar and circumstellar parameters. We measure neon line fluxes and X-ray luminosities for 28 young stellar objects in the Rho Ophiuchi star formation region for which good quality infrared spectra and X-ray data have been obtained, the former with the Spitzer IRS and the latter with the Deep Rho Ophiuchi XMM-Newton Observation. The Star Population of Young Open Clusters: A Photometric and Spectroscopic Study

I have determined physical parameters (interstellar reddening, distance, and age) for three young open clusters: h Persei, x Persei, and NGC 1893. I have studied their massive star populations and their formation epochs. I present photometric data for 350 stars in the double open cluster h and x Persei. For both clusters, the distance moduli and reddening are determined to be the same: V0 M p V and E(b y) p . However, the ages for 11.6 0.2 0.42 0.2 the clusters are different. Most stars in h Persei follow the isochrone, although some of the massive stars seem log t p 7.3 younger. By contrast, the stars in x Persei better fit isochrones for (A. Marco & G. Bernabeu 2001, A&A, log t p 7.10–7.1…
Modeling the long duration rise phase of a flare detected on the M star TWA 11 B

We present preliminary results from the analysis of a long duration flare that was observed in a serendipitous XMM-Newton detection of the M star CD-39 7717 B (TWA 11 B), member of the young stellar association TW Hya. Only the rise phase (with a duration of ~35 ks) and possibly the flare peak are present in the light-curve. The decay phase was not monitored. The fluorescent iron emission line at 6.4 keV was observed during this event. As far as we are concerned, since TWA 11 B seems to have no disk, this is only the third detection of Fe photospheric fluorescence. During the flare, the X-ray flux increased a factor of ~4. Young ages and other intriguing properties of massive compact galaxies in the local Universe

We characterize the kinematics, morphology, stellar populations and star formation histories of a sample of massive compact galaxies in the nearby Universe, which might provide a closer look at the nature of their high-redshift (z >rsim 1.0) massive counterparts. We find that nearby compact massive objects show elongated morphologies and are fast rotators. New high-quality long-slit spectra show that they have young mean luminosity-weighted ages (2 Gyr) and metallicities solar or above ([Z/H] >rsim 0.0). The Gaia-ESO Survey: Catalogue of Hα emission stars

We discuss the properties of Hα emission stars across the sample of 22035 spectra from the Gaia-ESO Survey internal data release, observed with the GIRAFFE instrument and largely belonging to stars in young open clusters. Automated fits using two independent Gaussian profiles and a third component that accounts for the nebular emission allow us to discern distinct morphological types of Hα line profiles with the introduction of a simplified classification scheme. All in all, we find 3765 stars with intrinsic emission and sort their spectra into eight distinct morphological categories: single-component emission, emission blend, sharp emission peaks, double emission, P-Cygni, inverted P-Cygni…
