Paschen β line shape studies in low-temperature plasmas

Line shape calculations and measurements of the Paschen β line of hydrogen (λ=12818 Å) are reported. Measurements were performed at electron densities of the plasma between 1015 cm-3 and 1016 cm-3. A wall-stabilized arc operated at atmospheric pressure in a helium-hydrogen gas mixture was applied as the excitation source. The radiation of the plasma, originating from nearly homogeneous plasma layers, in the end-on direction, was analyzed. A grating spectrometer equipped with a CCD detector was used for the radiation detection. Przedstawiono znaczenie, rozwój metod otrzymywania, kierunki zastosowania i perspektywy rozwoju poliolefin (polietylenu i polipropylenu), materiałów dominujących w światowej produkcji i zużyciu tworzyw sztucznych. Scharakteryzowano oddziaływania tych polimerów na środowisko, kolejno w etapie ich wytwarzania, wykorzystywania i utylizacji odpadów poużytkowych. Scharakteryzowano także kierunki badań prowadzonych w Instytucie Chemii Uniwersytetu Opolskiego w zakresie syntezy, charakterystyki, a przede wszystkim temo- i fotooksydacyjnej degradacji oraz starzenia atmosferycznego poliolefin.

Tuire Ranta-Meyer tutki väitöskirjassaan suomalaisessa musiikkielämässä 1900-luvun alkupuolella vaikuttanutta säveltäjä Erkki Melartinia (1875 - 1937) eri rooleissaan ja aikakautensa musiikillisessa yhteiskunnassa. Säveltäjäntyönsä lisäksi Melartin toimi kapellimestarina ja pitkäaikaisena konservatorion johtajana, musiikinteorian ja sävellyksenopettajana sekä erilaisten järjestöjen ja asiantuntijalautakuntien jäsenenä. The motivation behind our research was the rapid growth and business wins of world-class Finnish game companies, like Supercell, as well as the success of other game companies in Finland. There are two competing hypotheses explaining how innovativeness influences the survival of startups: On the one hand, innovativeness is argued to foster survival-enhancing attributes (e.g., market power and cost efficiency) and capabilities (e.g., absorptive capacity). On the other hand, an innovative startup faces (and bears the associated risks of) liabilities of newness and smallness that exceed those of its non-innovative counterparts. Mediassa on puhuttu ensimmäisistä ”kettutyttöiskuista” vuodelta 1995 asti eläintenvapautusiskuista. Turkiseläinten irtilaskeminen ja tarhojen taloudellinen sabotoiminen rikkoi suomalaisen yhteiskunnallisen protestiperinteen. Tekijät ja teot on marginalisoitu rikollisiksi ja rikollisuudeksi ilman, että tekijöiden motiiveja on nostettu suurennuslasin alle. Tutkimuksen puute kyseisestä aiheesta oli motiivi tehdä gradu. Non-stationary dynamo and magnetospheric accretion processes of the classical T Tauri star V2129 Oph

We report here the first results of a multiwavelength campaign focussing on magnetospheric accretion processes of the classical T Tauri star V2129 Oph. In this paper, we present spectropolarimetric observations collected in 2009 July with ESPaDOnS at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope and contemporaneous photometry secured with the SMARTS facility. Circularly polarized Zeeman signatures are clearly detected, both in photospheric absorption and accretion-powered emission lines, from time-series of which we reconstruct new maps of the magnetic field, photospheric brightness and accretion-powered emission at the surface of V2129 Oph using our newest tomographic imaging tool - to be compared wi…
Chandra study of the eclipsing M dwarf binary, YY Gem

The eclipsing M dwarf binary system, YY Gem, was observed using Chandra covering 140 ks (2Prot) in total, split into two even exposures separated by 0.76 d (0.94 Prot). The system was extremely active: three energetic flares were observed over the course of these observations. The flaring and non-flaring states of the system are analysed in this paper. The activity level increased between the first and second observations even during the quiescent (non-flaring) phases. An analysis of the dynamics of the X-ray-emitting plasma suggests that both components are significantly active.
