Single-dose ebselen does not afford sustained neuroprotection to rats subjected to severe focal cerebral ischemia

Oxygen free radicals have been involved in the pathophysiology of cerebral ischemia, especially after spontaneous or thrombolytic reperfusion. In this study with rats, we have combined a severe focal ischemic insult (2 h) and a prolonged reperfusion time (7 days) to assess the possible sustained neuroprotective effect of ebselen (10 or 100 mg/kg), a small, lipophilic organoselenium compound which mimics glutathione peroxidase. Parietal cortical perfusion was measured by laser-Doppler flowmetry, and focal cerebral ischemia was carried out by the intraluminal thread method. Darbā ir izstrādāta metode sešu biogēno amīnu masspektrometriskai noteikšanai alkoholiskos dzērienos. Metodes pamatā ir kompleksu veidošanās starp biogēniem amīniem un imidazolija grupu saturošu Brensteda skābi, kas nodrošina ātru un selektīvu analīzi bez parauga sagatavošanas. Darba gaitā ir izpētīta vairāku masspektrometra parametru ietekme uz biogēno amīnu kompleksu rašanos, un izvēlētas specifiskās MRM pārejas. Metodes aprobācijai izvēlēti un analizēti astoņi alkoholiskie dzērieni.
Could halophilic archaea improve the traditional salted anchovies (Engraulis encrasicholus L) safety and quality?

Aims: The positive influence of two selected extremely halophilic archaea strains in the production of salted anchovies (Engraulis encrasicolus, L., 1758) was highlighted. Methods and Results: Anchovies produced with salt artificially contaminated with halophiles exhibited lower loads of staphylococci, Enterobacteriaceae and lactic acid bacteria, and a reduced content of histamine as well as an improved organoleptic acceptance. Conclusions: The findings of this survey are expected to enhance the safety of salted anchovies, with regard to the histamine formation during ripening, and to improve the sensory attributes of this product. El presente artículo tiene por objeto el estudio de la problemática jurídica que ha suscitado a lo largo de la reciente historia de los Estados Unidos la posible constitucionalización de la estabilidad presupuestaria, analizando las repercusiones de ésta a través de las experiencias estatales y del complejo marco institucional de la democracia norteamericana a nivel federal. This essay is focused on the Barrai family, a group of stonecutters operating in Cagliari between 15th and 16th centuries. The family played a leading role in the construction and diffusion of star-shaped rib vaults in the late Sardinian 16th centuries religious architecture. The study attempts to systematize available evidence and information about the Barrai family in order to provide a starting point for further investigation. New hypotheses about the family’s genealogy and activity during the second half of the 16th century are also explored.

The aim of this thesis is to understand the legal status of unmarried couples, over a period of time extending for nearly five centuries. The canon law of marriage relegated cohabitation to a permanent state of sin, and in the sixteenth century, the council of Trent prescribed severe penalties to punish cohabitation. The fathers of the council enacted rules governing the celebration of marriage. Secular authority then gradually arrogated jurisdiction in matrimonial matters by means of laws and jurisprudence.
