Investigation of the p–Σ0 interaction via femtoscopy in pp collisions

This Letter presents the first direct investigation of the p-$\Sigma^{0}$ interaction, using the femtoscopy technique in high-multiplicity pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV measured by the ALICE detector. The $\Sigma^{0}$ is reconstructed via the decay channel to $\Lambda \gamma$, and the subsequent decay of $\Lambda$ to p$\pi^-$. The photon is detected via the conversion in material to e$^{+}$e$^{-}$ pairs exploiting the unique capability of the ALICE detector to measure electrons at low transverse momenta. Search for a Stable Six-Quark State at BABAR

Recent investigations have suggested that the six-quark combination uuddss could be a deeply bound state (S) that has eluded detection so far, and a potential dark matter candidate. We report the first search for a stable, doubly strange six-quark state in Upsilon -> S anti-Lambda anti-Lambda decays based on a sample of 90 million Upsilon(2S) and 110 million Upsilon(3S) decays collected by the BABAR experiment. No signal is observed, and 90% confidence level limits on the combined Upsilon(2S,3S) -> S anti-Lambda anti-Lambda branching fraction in the range (1.2-1.4)x10^-7 are derived for m_S < 2.05 GeV. These bounds set stringent limits on the existence of such exotic particles.

International consequences of the activation of Title III of the Helms Burton Act

In May 2019 the U.S. government activated the Title III of the Helms Burton Act. Title III grants U.S. nationals whose property was expropriated in Cuba after the 1959 revolution a private right of action against those who traffic in their property. The purpose of the thesis is to analyze the legal, political, economic and social consequences of the activation and its incompatibility with international law. The study therefore examines expropriation rights, state immunity from jurisdiction and the extraterritorial application of U.S. laws. Residential tenancy as a viable substitute to home-ownership in Latvia

In light of the high rates of owner-occupancy and the view of residential tenancy being an inferior type of tenure, the Latvian government for the past decade has tried to implement a new regulation for residential tenancy to cure the situation. This thesis presents a comparative analysis of both, the regulatorily environment and the present economic and social situation, of the tenancy market in the Baltic states. Based on the findings, and by adding a theoretical framework of the necessity of a sound residential tenancy market, an assessment of possibility for the proposed regulation to reach its aims is presented.
