Symptomatology and Diagnosis of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

The symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia are well known. Diagnosis rests on digital palpation of the enlarged prostate. Objective parameters are laboratory tests, imaging techniques, endoscopy, and urodynamic investigations. Laboratory tests include urinalysis and serum creatinine measurement. Markers are not reliable and the determination of acid phosphatase and prostate-specific antigen is not recommended routinely for patients with prostatism. Imaging techniques are usually restricted to a complete echographic investigation of the entire urinary tract. Endoscopic manipulations are seldom necessary. SCOPO: Valutare l’utilità dell’esame sotto-carico della colonna lombare mediante una RM dedicata in pazienti con evidenza clinica di dolore lombare. DISEGNO DELLO STUDIO: Prospettico. MATERIALI E METODI: Nel periodo compreso tra agosto 2008 e luglio 2009, 40 pazienti con evidenza clinica di dolore lombare (gruppo A) ed uno stesso numero di volontari sani (gruppo B) sono stati esaminati mediante RM della colonna lombare con macchina dedicata da 0,25 Tesla (G-Scan, Esaote Spa, Genova, Italia). In this paper I argue that Rawlsian Law of People (LP) is much more useful to the debate on international distributive justice than it is commonly assumed by many leading political philosophers (Pogge, Nussbaum, Sen, Beitz, Singer). Obiettivo/Introduzione: Dimostrare l’utilità dell’esame sotto carico della caviglia eseguito con una macchina RM dedicata nella valutazione della fascia plantare in volontari sani ed in pazienti con evidenza clinica di fascite plantare. Materiali e Metodi: Due gruppi di 20 soggetti l’uno sono stati studiati mediante esame RM, eseguito nel periodo compreso tra Gennaio e Marzo 2009. The uroflowmetry data of a selected number of patients who took part to the QUIBUS study (366 traces selected after quality control by a central panel of reviewer) were evaluated for their relationships with age, prostate volume, and IPSS and ICS-BPH scores. Waiting time, flow time, voided volume, maximum flow rate (Q(max)) and average flow rate (Q(ave)) were the flow variables considered for analysis. Outcome of radical prostatectomy for incidental carcinoma of the prostate

OBJECTIVE To evaluate a contemporary series of patients with incidental prostate cancer detected by transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) and undergoing radical prostatectomy (RP). PATIENTS AND METHODS Between 1998 and 2004, 1931 patients had TURP for obstructive voiding symptoms and suspected BPH. Incidental prostate cancer was found in 104 (5.4%); 26 of these patients had a RP. The pathological staging and treatment of these patients were reviewed retrospectively and the follow-up results obtained.
