Open challenges in environmental data analysis and ecological complex systems (a)
2020
Abstract This letter focuses on open challenges in the fields of environmental data analysis and ecological complex systems. It highlights relations between research problems in stochastic population dynamics, machine learning and big data research, and statistical physics. Recent and current developments in statistical modeling of spatiotemporal data and in population dynamics are briefly reviewed. The presentation emphasizes stochastic fluctuations, including their statistical representation, data-based estimation, prediction, and impact on the physics of the underlying systems. Guided by the common thread of stochasticity, a deeper and improved understanding of environmental processes an…
Assessment of Organizational Trust: Preliminary Data for Romanian Adaptation of the Organizational Trust Inventory Short Form
2013
Abstract In the last years, trust became an important variable in regard to the well-being of organizations. In Romania, it was included in studies as a variable but there are few instruments that measure organizational trust. Therefore I identify a necessity for developing instruments useful in assessing and promoting any organizational adjustments. This paper presents the preliminary data obtained in the process of adaptation of OTI for the Romanian population. In doing so, we followed the guidelines of ITC. Using a sample of 108 employees the psychometric results show that OTI-RO has a high level of internal consistency reliability (a = 0.94) and it can be used exclusive for equivalent p…
Theoretical study of Fe doping and oxidation–reduction influence on the photorefractive effect in BaTiO_3
1993
We numerically solve charge-transport and Poisson equations for photorefractive BaTiO3 single crystals with a band model, using four impurity levels, Fe2+–Fe3+, Fe3+–Fe4+, VO••–VO•, and VO•-VOx. Densities and photoinduced spatial distributions of each population are computed as a function of annealing O partial pressure. Space-charge field and beam-coupling gain are also computed as a function of annealing O partial pressure, temperature, Fe concentration, grating wave vector, and light intensity. We discuss the intervening mechanism of impurity centers and the correlations between experimental conditions of crystal growth, oxidation–reduction treatments, and measurement parameters.
Jumping To Conclusions, General Intelligence, And Psychosis Liability: Findings From The Multi-Centre EU-GEI Case-Control Study
2019
AbstractBackgroundThe “jumping to conclusions” (JTC) bias is associated with both psychosis and general cognition but their relationship is unclear. In this study, we set out to clarify the relationship between the JTC bias, IQ, psychosis and polygenic liability to schizophrenia and IQ.Methods817 FEP patients and 1294 population-based controls completed assessments of general intelligence (IQ), and JTC (assessed by the number of beads drawn on the probabilistic reasoning “beads” task) and provided blood or saliva samples from which we extracted DNA and computed polygenic risk scores for IQ and schizophrenia.ResultsThe estimated proportion of the total effect of case/control differences on J…

The Depressive and Anxious Avoidance in Prolonged Grief Questionnaire (DAAPGQ) was developed to measure depressive and anxious avoidance behaviors, which, according to cognitive-behavioral models, are supposed to play an important role in the development and maintenance of prolonged grief. The present study aimed to develop a German version of the DAAPGQ and evaluate its psychometric properties and validity within a representative sample of the German general population (N = 2531). The German-language DAAPGQ was developed using a forward-backward translation procedure. Then, a subsample of individuals who reported having lost a significant other (N = 1371) of a representative sample was ass…

The Trier Inventory for Chronic Stress (TICS), consisting of 57 items, is an instrument for measuring chronic stress in nine areas. There is also a short form (SSCS) of the TICS consisting of 12 items. However, this 12-item short form does not include all nine areas of the theoretical model and the long version. Therefore, a short version including all nine scales/areas was investigated. The TICS was taken by a sample of N = 2,473 respondents from the general population, aged 14 to 99, selected by random-route sampling. Confirmatory factor analyses applying robust maximum likelihood estimations (MLM) tested the model fit. The one-factor-model proposed by the original authors was tested, and…
Anthropological investigation of a Kurdish village population from south-eastern Turkey. I. Regional comparison of morphological features
1988
The paper is dealing with an anthropological investigation of a Kurdish village population from southern Turkey. We especially attached importance on the complete registration of all inhabitants to get a reliable sample for regional comparison of morphological features. Anthropological data of other Kurdish population groups are used for univariate and multivariate analysis. The resulting clusters are discussed beside the question of representation under the standpoint of regional and cultural origin of the samples.
Cognitive and neuropsychological profiles of the elderly
1993
Testing the cognitive functions of the elderly is often eclectic and atheoretical. We take a theoretical model, simultaneous and successive processing, and the tests derived from it to describe the cognitive functions of the elderly. Subsequently, the performance of an elderly sample on a battery of neuropsychological tests is examined and also understood in relation to the two processing modes. Subjects were 81 individuals, 75 years old, from a population of nearly 300 persons participating in a Finnish research project on aging. They were administered tests of simultaneous and successive processing as well as an extensive battery of neuropsychological tasks. Multivariate and univariate an…
Assessing the Beneficial Effects of Economic Growth: The Harmonic Growth Index
2011
In this paper we introduce the multidimensional notion of harmonic growth as a situation of diffused well-being associated to an increase of per capita GDP. We say that a country experienced a harmonic growth if during the observed period all the key indicators, proxies of the endogenous and exogenous forces driving population well-being, show a significantly common pattern with the income dynamics. The notion is operationalized via an index of time series harmony which follows the functional data analysis approach. This Harmonic Growth Index (HGI) is based on comparisons between the coefficients from cubic B-splines interpolation. Such indices are then synthesized in order to provide the g…
La inteligencia de los niños
2005
Partial results of an investigation are presented whose primary objective is to adapt and to standardize the neurocognitive assessment battery C.A.S. of Das and Naglieri (1997) in a child sample. The test is an operationalization of a non traditional intelligence model (PASS) that considers the intelligent behaviors as a group of four cognitive basic processes (planning, attention, simultaneous and successive processing). The objectives of this work are to obtain the psychometric properties of the instrument and also, to analyze if differences exist according to sex and age. The study type is crosswise - transactional. It was administered the CAS to 150 children residents in Buenos Aires am…
