Information dynamics: Temporal behavior of uncertainty measures

We carry out a systematic study of uncertainty measures that are generic to dynamical processes of varied origins, provided they induce suitable continuous probability distributions. The major technical tool are the information theory methods and inequalities satisfied by Fisher and Shannon information measures. We focus on a compatibility of these inequalities with the prescribed (deterministic, random or quantum) temporal behavior of pertinent probability densities.

A solution to the stochastic point location problem in metalevel nonstationary environments.

This paper reports the first known solution to the stochastic point location (SPL) problem when the environment is nonstationary. The SPL problem involves a general learning problem in which the learning mechanism (which could be a robot, a learning automaton, or, in general, an algorithm) attempts to learn a "parameter," for example, lambda*, within a closed interval. However, unlike the earlier reported results, we consider the scenario when the learning is to be done in a nonstationary setting. The classic distributed computation is done by atoms, molecules or spins in vast numbers, each equipped with nothing more than the knowledge of their immediate neighborhood and the rules of statistical mechanics. These agents, 1023 or more, are able to form liquids and solids from gases, realize extremely complex ordered states, such as liquid crystals, and even decode encrypted messages. Statistically validated networks in bipartite complex systems.

Many complex systems present an intrinsic bipartite nature and are often described and modeled in terms of networks [1-5]. Examples include movies and actors [1, 2, 4], authors and scientific papers [6-9], email accounts and emails [10], plants and animals that pollinate them [11, 12]. Bipartite networks are often very heterogeneous in the number of relationships that the elements of one set establish with the elements of the other set. Statistical analysis of RaptorQ failure probability applied to a data recovery software

In this work, we have implemented a data recovery software integrating the most recent rateless codes, i.e., RaptorQ codes. Thanks to the above-mentioned software, it is possible to recover data loss occurring on several kinds of network conditions. We have performed a statistical analysis of failure probabilities at several configurations of RaptorQ parameters. We have found a good agreement with the theoretical values of a random linear fountain code over Galois Field GF(256). Moreover, we have shown that the probability of having a certain number of failed decoded source blocks - when sending a fixed size file - follows a Poisson distribution.

Pseudo-Bosons, So Far

In the past years several extensions of the canonical commutation relations have been proposed by different people in different contexts and some interesting physics and mathematics have been deduced. Here, we review some recent results on the so-called {\em pseudo-bosons}. They arise from a special deformation of the canonical commutation relation $[a,a^\dagger]=\1$, which is replaced by $[a,b]=\1$, with $b$ not necessarily equal to $a^\dagger$. We start discussing some of their mathematical properties and then we discuss several examples.

Multi-rogue waves solutions: from the NLS to the KP-I equation

Our discovery of multi-rogue wave (MRW) solutions in 2010 completely changed the viewpoint on the links between the theory of rogue waves and integrable systems, and helped explain many phenomena which were never understood before. It is enough to mention the famous Three Sister waves observed in oceans, the creation of a regular approach to studying higher Peregrine breathers, and the new understanding of 2 + 1 dimensional rogue waves via the NLS-KP correspondence. Estimation of Nucleation Barriers from Simulations of Crystal Nuclei Surrounded by Fluid in Equilibrium

Nucleation rates for homogeneous nucleation are commonly estimated in terms of an Arrhenius law involving the nucleation barrier, written in terms of a competition of the contribution in surface free energy of the nucleus and the free energy gain proportional to the nucleus volume. For crystal nuclei this “classical nucleation theory” is hampered by the problem that the nucleus in general is non spherical, since the interfacial excess free energy depends on the orientation of the interface relative to the crystal axes.
