Proposing a Novel Predictive Technique for Gully Erosion Susceptibility Mapping in Arid and Semi-arid Regions (Iran)

2019

© 2019 by the authors. Gully erosion is considered to be one of the main causes of land degradation in arid and semi-arid territories around the world. In this research, gully erosion susceptibility mapping was carried out in Semnan province (Iran) as a case study in which we tested the efficiency of the index of entropy (IoE), the Vlse Kriterijumska Optimizacija I Kompromisno Resenje (VIKOR) method, and their combination. Remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS) were used to reduce the time and costs needed for rapid assessment of gully erosion. Firstly, a gully erosion inventory map (GEIM) with 206 gully locations was obtained from various sources and randomly divided into t…

New evidence on the Statistical Anxiety Scale (SAS)

2014

The roles of job and worker restructuring in aggregate wage growth dynamics

2019

We propose an approach for measuring and analyzing the dynamics of the standard aggregate wage growth of macro statistics with micro data. Our method decomposes the aggregate wage growth into the wage growth of job stayers and into various terms related to job and worker restructuring. This method produces explicit expressions with clear interpretations for the various restructuring components. Using comprehensive longitudinal employer–employee data, we study how job and worker restructuring influence the aggregate wage growth and its cyclicality. The results highlight the importance of drawing a sharp distinction between job and worker restructuring in the analysis of aggregate wage growth…

On the use of multi-temporal series of COSMO-SkyMed data for LANDcover classification and surface parameter retrieval over agricultural sites

2011

The objective of this paper is to report on the activities carried out during the first year of the Italian project “Use of COSMO-SkyMed data for LANDcover classification and surface parameters retrieval over agricultural sites” (COSMOLAND), funded by the Italian Space Agency. The project intends to contribute to the COSMO-SkyMed mission objectives in the agriculture and hydrology application domains.

Validez factorial de la adaptación al español del Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey The Factorial Validity of the Maslach Burnout Inventory-Ge…

2002

A Process-Oriented View of Procedural Memory Can Help Better Understand Tourette’s Syndrome

2021

Tourette’s syndrome (TS) is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by repetitive movements and vocalizations, also known as tics. The phenomenology of tics and the underlying neurobiology of the disorder have suggested that the altered functioning of the procedural memory system might contribute to its etiology. However, contrary to the robust findings of impaired procedural memory in neurodevelopmental disorders of language, results from TS have been somewhat mixed. We review the previous studies in the field and note that they have reported normal, impaired, and even enhanced procedural performance. These mixed findings may be at least partially be explained by the diversity of the s…

Two‐sample problems in statistical data modelling

2010

A common problem in mathematical statistics is to check whether two samples differ from each other. From modelling point of view it is possible to make a statistical test for the equality of two means or alternatively two distribution functions. The second approach allows to represent the two‐sample test graphically. This can be done by adding simultaneous confidence bands to the probability‐probability (P — P) or quantile‐quantile (Q — Q) plots. In this paper we compare empirically the accuracy of the classical two‐sample t‐test, empirical likelihood method and several bootstrap methods. For a real data example both Q — Q and P — P plots with simultaneous confidence bands have been plotted…

Existence of two solutions for singular Φ-Laplacian problems

2022

AbstractExistence of two solutions to a parametric singular quasi-linear elliptic problem is proved. The equation is driven by theΦ\Phi-Laplacian operator, and the reaction term can be nonmonotone. The main tools employed are the local minimum theorem and the Mountain pass theorem, together with the truncation technique. GlobalC1,τ{C}^{1,\tau }regularity of solutions is also investigated, chiefly viaa prioriestimates and perturbation techniques.

Sports teams as complex adaptive systems: manipulating player numbers shapes behaviours during football small-sided games

2016

Small-sided and conditioned games (SSCGs) in sport have been modelled as complex adaptive systems. Research has shown that the relative space per player (RSP) formulated in SSCGs can impact on emergent tactical behaviours. In this study we adopted a systems orientation to analyse how different RSP values, obtained through manipulations of player numbers, influenced four measures of interpersonal coordination observed during performance in SSCGs. For this purpose we calculated positional data (GPS 15 Hz) from ten U-15 football players performing in three SSCGs varying in player numbers (3v3, 4v4 and 5v5). Key measures of SSCG system behaviours included values of (1) players’ dispersion, (2) …
