Viene preso in esame il primo recupero di sculture antiche di cui abbiamo memoria per Siracusa, tramandato da Fazello che ne riferisce il ritrovamento nel 1530 nella zona dell‟istmo tra Ortigia e la terraferma, nel corso di lavori edili al Castello Marchetto. Longitudinal (T1) relaxation data are presented for European lime (Tilia cordata Mill) wood samples, a modern sample and two from a XVI century wooden statue, one of which samples is treated with Paraloid B72 for preservation. The 1H signals from liquid and solid are separated in the free induction decays (FID). T1 distributions are obtained by UPEN and show two resolved peaks for the liquid component of either untreated wood but a wide distribution for the liquid of the treated sample. In each case, the solid component showed a single peak, which for either untreated sample was at about the position of the longer T1 liquid peak. Deciphering the internal structure of prehistoric artefacts can provide spectacular insights that might help us understand the people who made them. In order to preserve the integrity of these relics of past civilisations, it is desirable to make such investigations using non-destructive techniques. Recent decades have witnessed a growth in the X-ray computed tomography (CT) applications in the study of cultural heritage objects. This paper presents and discusses tomographic investigations of two Cucuteni ceramic statuettes discovered in Romania. The study was made with a CT device specially designed for archaeometric applications.

The subject of the contribution is the analysis of the lower part (feet) of a clay statue and two clay artefacts decorated with a figurative scene, all found in the anellenic site of Monte Capodarso (Enna) and datable between the 6th and the 5th century BC The latter, considered, at the time of their discovery, as parts of a trapeze, are now considered, in the light of the analysis of the clays, of the decoration and on the basis of comparisons, to be the armrests of the throne on which the figure sat, of which only the feet remain, probably a cult agalma.

Il contributo esamina la decorazione di alcune statue lignee del Cinquecento e del Seicento della Sicilia Occidentale che, al pari di quelle dell'altra parte dell'Isola, offrono, malgrado ci siano giunti pochi esempi rispetto a quelli citati nei documenti, una significativa campionatura sulla ricchezza delle vesti. La decorazione dei simulacri, quasi sempre affidata all'oro e a pochi e simbolici colori, secondo la tecnica dell'estofados, riflette talvolta il gusto dell'epoca. Nel saggio, infatti, si esaminano statue femminili, perlopiù Madonne e Sante venerate nell'Isola, che, scampate all'incuria del tempo o alle drastiche ridipinture dei secoli passati e anche recenti, mostrano finissime …
