Development and validation of the neighborhood environment walkability scale for youth across six continents

2019

Abstract Background The IPEN International Physical Activity and Environment Network Adolescent project was conducted using common study protocols to document the strength, shape, and generalizability of associations of perceived neighborhood environment attributes with adolescents’ physical activity and overweight/obesity using data from 15 countries. Countries did not use identical versions of the Neighborhood Environment Walkability Scale for Youth (NEWS-Y) to measure perceived neighborhood environment attributes. Therefore, this study derived a measurement model for NEWS-Y items common to all IPEN Adolescent countries and developed a scoring protocol for the IPEN Adolescent version of t…

Burnout Syndrome in municipal health managers

2016

MEDLEM database, a data collection on large Elasmobranchs in the Mediterranean and Black seas

2020

The Mediterranean Large Elasmobranchs Monitoring (MEDLEM) database contains more than 3,000 records (with more than 4,000 individuals) of large elasmobranch species from 21 different countries around the Mediterranean and Black seas, observed from 1666 to 2017. The principal species included in the archive are the devil ray (1,868 individuals), the basking shark (935 individuals), the blue shark (622 individuals), and the great white shark (342 individuals). In the last decades, other species such as the thresher shark (187 individuals), the shortfin mako (180 individuals), and the spiny butterfly ray (138) were reported with increasing frequency. This was possibly due to increased public a…

Patvēruma meklētāja statusa noteikšana Eiropas Savienības tiesībās, procesuālās garantijas patvēruma meklētājiem pieteikuma izskatīšanas laikā

2016

Coordinates in the Universe of Node-Negative Breast Cancer Revisited

2009

Abstract We present a global picture of the natural history of node-negative breast cancer in which two of three important biological processes have outstanding prognostic consequences. We propose that the transition from slow to fast proliferation of the tumor leads to the most dramatic aggravation of prognosis. Second, immune cell infiltration is of major importance to prevent disease progression in fast-proliferating breast carcinomas, regardless of estrogen receptor status. In the absence of endocrine treatment, steroid hormone receptor expression as a third axis is of limited prognostic importance. Dissecting tumors according to these three major biological axes will allow further unde…

Contrasting Effects of Chronic Anthropogenic Disturbance on Activity and Species Richness of Insectivorous Bats in Neotropical Dry Forest

2022

For prioritizing conservation actions, it is vital to understand how ecologically diverse species respond to environmental change caused by human activity. This is particularly necessary considering that chronic human disturbance is a threat to biodiversity worldwide. Depending on how species tolerate and adapt to such disturbance, ecological integrity and ecosystem services will be more or less affected. Bats are a species-rich and functionally diverse group, with important roles in ecosystems, and are therefore recognized as a good model group for assessing the impact of environmental change. Their populations have decreased in several regions, especially in the tropics, and are threatene…

Serum pancreatic enzymes in human immunodeficiency virus-infected children - A collaborative study of the Italian Society of Pediatric Gastroenterolo…

1998

Numerous studies have shown pancreatic disease in adult human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected patients, but there are very few reports on pediatric patients. Our aim was to determine the prevalence of increased serum pancreatic enzyme levels and their relationship to clinical manifestations of acute pancreatitis in HIV-infected children.Forty-seven consecutive, symptomatic HIV-infected children (24 male; median age, 7.3 years; range, 1-17 years) and 45 sex- and age-matched controls without gastroenterologic disease were enrolled. In all subjects serum total amylase, pancreatic amylase, and lipase were assayed with commercial kits. The following were recorded: disease progression (CDC …
