Short stay thyroid surgery: a personal experience

Introduction: In spite of a low incidence of complications during thyroidectomy, there is a widespread tendency to extend hospitalization at least until postoperative second day. The need of a rebalancing between costs and profits had led us to revise the hospitalization’s duration. Methods: We reviewed our early experience (129 patients candidated to total thyroidectomy as ordinary hospitalization from 2001 to 2002) identifying the causes of hospitalization’s delay both preoperatively and in discharge. Do they stay or go? Analysis of international students in Finland

The increase in international student mobility raises questions of how many international students choose to stay in their host country and the reasons why some stay and others leave. This study examines factors affecting international students to stay in Finland three years after graduation. Tracking 13 (years) graduating cohorts across national (Finland) data registries, we find family ties and labour market opportunities relate to an increased probability an international student stays in Finland three years after graduation. peerReviewed
Identity construction in ELF contexts: a case study of Finnish engineering students working in Germany

This paper explores connections between identity and language use in lingua franca contexts by investigating identity construction among Finnish users of English as revealed in interviews conducted both before and after a period spent in Germany. The focus is on the users' own stories of their language use and learning, and on the discursive construction of identities. The study draws on poststructuralist theories of identity construction, combining them with research that focuses on language learners' identity construction or on identity issues in contexts with English as a lingua franca. Mowa eschatologiczna Jezusa w redakcji wszystkich trzech ewangelii synoptycznych kończy się wezwaniem do czuwania (zob. Mt 24,42-51; 25,13-15; Mk 13,33-37; Łk 21,34-36). Wezwanie to jest w Ewangelii św. Marka krótkie, a zarazem szczególnie intensywne. Zawiera w sobie zarówno konkluzję mowy eschatologicznej, a zarazem jej wymowne zwieńczenie z wyznaczeniem konkretnych zadań dla uczniów, którzy nie znając czasu wypełnienia się zapowiedzi końca czasów, otrzymują zadanie szczególnej czujności. Krótka, ale wymowna przypowieść o Panu domu który, opuszczając na pewien czas swój dom, wyznaczył każdemu obowiązki, zawiera istotne zadanie odźwiernego czuwającego w oczekiwaniu na powrót Pana.
