Tracking the invasion of the red swamp crayfish Procambarus clarkii (Girard, 1852) (Decapoda Cambaridae) in Sicily: a “citizen science” approach

2017

A small “citizen science” project carried out from November 2016 onwards led to the creation of the “Sicilian Procambarus …

Prediction of Maxwell – Stefan diffusion coefficients in polymer – multicomponent fluid systems

2014

Abstract Calculations of mass fluxes in multicomponent fluids based on the system of generalized Maxwell–Stefan equations (GMSE) is preferably used because Maxwell–Stefan (M–S) diffusion coefficients are symmetrical and have a clear physical meaning, as they reflect the binary friction forces between compounds in the system. For the calculation of the mass transport of a multicomponent fluid in the polymer basing on GMSE, it is necessary to have M–S diffusion coefficients. This paper proposes a method that allows their calculation using widely available self-diffusion coefficients and binary diffusion coefficients for infinitely diluted mixtures. The proposed method was compared with the me…

Predicting mass fluxes in the pervaporation process using Maxwell-Stefan diffusion coefficients

2018

Abstract In the past decades, it has been proven that pervaporation is an effective and energy-efficient membrane process for the separation of liquids that are difficult to separate in classical processes. The demand for new process applications has increased the need for mass transfer simulation methods, considering the interactions between the system components and the influence of process parameters on the permeation fluxes and at the same time requiring as few experiments as possible. The aim of the study was to find out whether the calculation of mass fluxes of multicomponent fluids based on the system of generalized Maxwell-Stefan equations (GMSE), using Maxwell-Stefan (M-S) diffusio…

«Mostruoso a vedere un Pergolesi coi baffi». Il mito in scena nel 1857 tra Milano (Solera - Ronchetti Monteviti) e Napoli (Quercia - Serrao)

2015

During the Nineteenth Century, the fame reached by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi was so large that the historical figure of the composer born in Jesi was transformed in a “dramatis persona”. Pergolesi appears as a character in two different operas dated to 1857. The first one is “Pergolese” by Temistocle Solera and Stefano Ronchetti Monteviti, performed in Milan at the Teatro alla Scala; the second one is “Pergolesi”, a “melodramma semiserio” by Fedrico Quercia set to music by Paolo Serrao and staged at the Teatro del Fondo in Naples. The two works mix historical elements with details drawn from pure fantasy. Their main purpose is to exalt the figure of the unfortunate and tormented artist, t…

Hatte Stefan I. von Serbien eine tochter namens Komnene? Zur aktue llen diskussion über die Chomatenos-akten zu Stefan Nemanjic und Seinem bruder Sava

2013

This contribution examines the article ?Stefan Nemanjic i njegov brat Sava u spisima Dimitrija Homatina? by Vlada Stankovic (2012) critically. On the basis of Chomatenos files (nos. 1, 3, 10, 13 and 86), he tried to obtain new details about in what way and with what results political and ecclesiastical communication between Epiros and Serbia took place in the period 1215-1219/20. In the course of this, as this present study shows, he repeatedly reached rash, questionable or untenable conclusions. Also the question raised by him - with a critical intention - about the name of Stefan Nemanjic?s daughter is now once again discussed and finally decided in such a way as this was already done in …

Lektorzy języka angielskiego w Wilnie i Krakowie w okresie międzywojennym. Próba biograficzna

2018

This paper concerns lecturers in English at two Polish universities between the wars: the Stefan Batory University in Vilnius and the Jagiellonian University in Cracow. The former employed four teachers of English, while the latter was represented by three. It may be safely assumed that all strived to make English accessible to their fellow countrymen; hence, they contributed in diff erent ways to the EFL market through their didactic endeavours. Their activity was not confi ned to teaching practices, however, as they had very diff erent career paths. Since little is known of them, this paper off ers a closer look at their biographies and embellishes them with archival materials.
