Tiivistelmä – Abstract Tutkimuksen tavoitteena oli tutkia itserakkauden käsitettä Stendhalin teoksessa De l’amour. Käsitteet, joita analysoimme ovat la pique d’amour-propre eli ”itserakkauden pistos”, jonka Kyllikki Nurminen (Gummerus 1949) on suomentanut ”itserakkauden ärtyvyydeksi”. Käsittelemme myös itserakkaudesta syntyvää rakkautta eli käsitettä l’amour par pique. Termiä la pique käytetään myös yksin, jolloin se viittaa yleisesti itserakkauteen, ja voi saada useita eri sävyjä. Pyrimme teema-analyysiä käyttäen selvittämään käsitteen la pique merkitystä ja roolia Stendhalin rakkausteoriassa. Millaisen rakkauden omanarvontunto synnyttää? Millaista roolia itserakkaus esittää ihmissuhteissa…
