Patients' experiences of shoulder problems prior to and following intervention.

2011

Health can be viewed from several perspectives. It has been shown that impingement of the shoulder leads to functional inability and decreased life quality. The aim of this study was to investigate the complexity of the effect of shoulder problems and discern and describe what it entails to be a patient suffering from shoulder problems. The study delineated patients' situations prior to and following medical intervention. This study is qualitative, and the data were collected through focus group interviews. Interviews with 26 respondents aged 43-63 (mean age 53) were made in 2005-2007. The sample group consisted of patients with supraspinatus tendinitis receiving either conservative treatme…

Stentgraft-Implantation for Treatment of Internal Carotid Artery Injury during Endonasal Sinus Surgery

2007

Background Damage of the internal carotid artery (ICA) is very rare but can be a dramatic complication of endonasal sinus surgery. In the literature only a few cases are reported, some of them with fatal results. Methods We present two cases with massive bleeding of the ICA caused by endonasal sinus surgery. Results In both cases bleeding could be stopped sufficiently by implanting a stentgraft. Conclusion The lumen of the artery could be preserved and no neurological deficits were observed.

Midterm Results of the Treatment of Penetrating Abdominal Aortic or Iliac Artery Ulcer with the BeGraft Balloon-Expandable Covered Stent-A Single-Cen…

2020

Background The purpose of the study was to evaluate the feasibility and efficacy of the novel BeGraft covered stent for the treatment of abdominal penetrating aortic ulcer (PAU) or penetrating ulcers of the iliac arteries (PUIAs). Methods This was a single-center observational study, which included 24 consecutive patients who underwent endovascular surgery due to abdominal PAU or PUIA between June 2017 and September 2019. Demographics of patients, lesion characteristics, diameter and length of the BeGraft stents, and postoperative events were prospectively collected and retrospectively analyzed. Follow-up examinations were performed at 1, 6, 12, and 24 months with clinical and hemodynamic e…

Multiple periscope and chimney grafts to treat ruptured thoracoabdominal and pararenal aortic aneurysms

2011

Purpose: To report midterm outcomes after urgent endovascular repair of ruptured pararenal or thoracoabdominal aortic aneurysms using multiple periscope and chimney grafts to preserve renovisceral branch perfusion and facilitate aneurysm exclusion. Methods: Nine consecutive men (mean age 72614 years, range 40–88) presenting with ruptured thoracoabdominal (n56), pararenal (n52), or infrarenal (n51) aortic aneurysm underwent urgent endovascular repair with at least 1 periscope graft delivered via a transfemoral access; chimney grafts were installed from an axillary access. In all, 17 periscope and 7 chimney grafts were used to reperfuse 11 renal and 13 visceral arteries in the 9 patients. The…

Short and long term results after intracoronary stenting in human coronary arteries: monocentre experience with the balloon-expandable Palmaz-Schatz …

1991

OBJECTIVE--Intracoronary stenting was designed to overcome acute complications after percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty and to achieve a reduced rate of restenosis, both of which are major limitations of this well accepted method for treating coronary heart disease. This report describes the experience at one centre with the implantation of balloon-expandable Palmaz-Schatz stents and focuses on device related complications and the short and long term angiographic outcome. DESIGN--A retrospective data analysis. PATIENTS--Stenting was attempted in 50 patients. Restenosis after an initially successful angioplasty procedure, inadequate postangioplasty results, saphenous coronary byp…

Endarterectomy Versus Angioplasty in Patients with Symptomatic Severe Carotid Stenosis (EVA-3S) trial: results up to 4 years from a randomised, multi…

2008

Summary Background Carotid stenting is a potential alternative to carotid endarterectomy but whether this technique is as safe as surgery and whether the long-term protection against stroke is similar to that of surgery are unclear. We previously reported that in patients in the Endarterectomy Versus Angioplasty in Patients with Symptomatic Severe Carotid Stenosis (EVA-3S) trial, the rate of any stroke or death within 30 days after the procedure was higher with stenting than with endarterectomy. We now report the results up to 4 years. Methods In this follow-up study of a multicentre, randomised, open, assessor-blinded, non-inferiority trial, we compared outcome after stenting with outcome …

Monitoring prothrombin fragment 1+2 during initiation of oral anticoagulant therapy after intracoronary stenting

1992

Patients with intracoronary stent implantation are treated with aggressive anticoagulant and antiplatelet therapy consisting of high-dose heparin, phenprocoumon, acetylsalicylic acid, dipyridamole, and the infusion of dextran to prevent a subacute thrombotic occlusion of the stented segment. In an effort to optimize this treatment by reducing both imminent bleeding complications and subacute thrombotic occlusion, the concentrations of prothrombin fragment 1 + 2 (F 1 + 2) were determined after intracoronary Palmaz-Schatz stent implantation in 19 consecutive patients. The F 1 + 2 concentrations after stent implantation and before the initiation of oral anticoagulant therapy (OAT) were 0.35 nm…

Early results of endovascular treatment of patients with bilateral stenoses of the internal carotid arteries using proximal protection systems at 30-…

2017

Abstract Background Although surgical endarterectomy remains the treatment of choice for carotid artery stenosis, carotid artery stenting (CAS) with use of proximal protection systems (PPS) plays an very important role as alternative treatment modality, especially in patients with critical, symptomatic lesions. This study was single-centre study to evaluate the technical and clinical success of proximal protection devices as the first choice for embolic protection in symptomatic and asymptomatic carotid stenosis in patients with bilateral, advanced lesions of carotid arteries (bilateral stenoses or stenosis and occlusion). Methods This was a post hoc analysis, with 30-day follow up. We anal…

Alveolar bone preservation in extraction sockets using non-resorbable dPTFE membranes: a retrospective non-randomized study.

2008

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the clinical regeneration of extraction sockets using high-density polytetrafluoroethylene (dPTFE) membranes without the use of a graft material. Methods: A total of 276 extraction sockets were evaluated in 276 subjects (151 males and 125 females; mean age, 50.2 years; age range: 24 to 73 years). After extraction, flaps were elevated and a dPTFE membrane was placed over the extraction site. The flaps were repositioned and sutured into place. Primary closure was not obtained over the membranes. The cemento-enamel junctions of the adjacent teeth were used as reference points. Measurements were taken postextraction and 12 months after surger…

Quantitative analysis of elastic recoil after balloon angioplasty and after intracoronary implantation of balloon-expandable Palmaz-Schatz stents.

1993

AbstractObjectives. The purpose of this study was to measure elastic recoil from sequential angiograms after balloon angioplasty and after implantation of a balloon-expandable Palmaz-Schatz stent in the same patient, and to compare the results with the late angiographic outcome.Background. The immediate result of coronary balloon angioplasty is influenced by plastic deformation, primarily of the atherosclerotic plaque, and by elastic recoil, primarily of the less or nondiseased vessel circumference,Methods. The extent of elastic recoil was measured quantitatively as the difference between maximal balloon size and the resulting vessel diameter or cross-sectional area.Results. Analysis was pe…
