Three-Year Results of Hydrus Microstent with Phacoemulsification
2019
Abstract We report the 3-year IOP efficacy of the implantation of the Schlemm’s canal Hydrus® Microstent (Ivantis®) combined with phacoemulsification versus phacoemulsification alone
Comparison of Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (With Drug-Eluting Stents) Versus Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting in Women With Severe Narrowing of …
2014
Women typically present with coronary artery disease later than men with more unfavorable clinical and anatomic characteristics. It is unknown whether differences exist in women undergoing treatment for unprotected left main coronary artery (ULMCA) disease. Our aim was to evaluate long-term clinical outcomes in women treated with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with drug-eluting stents versus coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). All consecutive women from the Drug-Eluting stent for LefT main coronary Artery disease registry with ULMCA disease were analyzed. A propensity matching was performed to adjust for baseline differences. In total, 817 women were included: 489 (59.8%) unde…
Coronary stent implantation in acute vessel closure 48 hours after an unsatisfactory coronary angioplasty
1990
We report the implantation of a balloon-expandable stent in a patient with acute vessel closure in the state of evolving myocardial infarction following 48 hr after unsatisfactory coronary angioplasty. The stent was implanted after successful recanalization of an occluded left anterior descending artery, with repeated unsatisfactory results of balloon angioplasty. Adjunct thrombolytic therapy was contraindicated. No residual stenosis was documented in immediate control angiograms, or after 24 hr, 3 weeks, and 4 months.

Implant-specific follow-up imaging of treated intracranial aneurysms: TOF-MRA vs. metal artifact reduced intravenous flat panel computed tomography a…
2017
Aim To compare the diagnostic quality of time-of-flight magnetic resonance angiography (TOF-MRA) and metal-artefact-reduction (MAR) flat-panel-detector computed tomography angiography (FPCTA) and to determine the imaging technique best suited for evaluation endovascular and surgically treated aneurysms. Methods The image quality of TOF-MRA and MAR-FPCTA of 44 intracranial implants (coiling: n= 20; clipping: n= 15; coiling + stenting: n= 9) in a patient cohort of 25 was evaluated by two independent readers. Images obtained using MAR-FPCTA (20 second scan time, 496 projections, intravenous contrast medium administration; Artis Zee, Siemens Healthcare, Forchheim) were compared with TOF-MRA-ima…

Safety and efficacy of endovascular treatment for carotid artery stenoses using proximal protection systems : 30-day follow-up
2017
Introduction. Although surgical endarterectomy remains the treatment of choice for carotid artery stenosis, carotid artery stenting (CAS) with use of proximal protection systems (PPS) plays an important role as alternative treatment modality, especially in high risk patients. This study was aimed at the assessment of safety of CAS with use of the PPS and also at identification of risk factors associated with this procedure. Material and methods. This was a post hoc analysis, with 30-day follow-up. We analysed results of treatment of 94 patients who underwent 97 CAS with PPS, 47 such procedures in asymptomatic, and 50 in symptomatic individuals. Results. There were 0 strokes during 30-day fo…
Shockwave intravascular lithoplasty for the treatment of calcified carotid artery stenosis: A very early single-center experience
2020
Endovascular treatment of calcified carotid disease represents one of the main challenges for the interventionalists. Plaque calcium load is one of the most important factors affecting the risk of procedural complications. A new tool called Shockwave intravascular lithotripsy (S-IVL; Shockwave Medical, Inc.) has been recently approved for the treatment of heavily calcified coronary and lower limb arteries but minimal data exist about the treatment of carotid arteries. We report our early experience of carotid stenting using S-IVL. We report two cases of symptomatic patients with severely calcified carotid artery diseases who were turned down for vascular surgeries. The first case was succes…
Rationale and design of the EMBRACE STEMI Study: A phase 2a, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial to evaluate the safety, tolerability …
2012
Background Although significant efforts have been made to improve ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) outcomes by reducing symptom-onset-to-reperfusion times, strategies to decrease the clinical impact of ischemic reperfusion injury have demonstrated limited success. Bendavia, an intravenously administered mitochondrial targeting peptide, has been shown to reduce myocardial infarct size and attenuate coronary no-reflow in experimental modelswhen given before reperfusion. Design The EMBRACE STEMI study is a phase 2a, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial enrolling 300 patients with a first-time anterior STEMI and an occluded proximal or mid–left anterior descendin…
Dilation of the ductus venosus by stent implantation increases placental blood perfusion in fetal sheep.
2006
The reduction of resistance to flow in the ductus venous (DV) and a decrease of blood supply to the liver serve for the survival of the fetus during hypoxia. The present study investigated the influence of the increased diameter of the DV on placental blood perfusion. In 15 ewes with twin pregnancies at gestational ages of 117 +/- 4 days, a stent (4 or 5 mm) was placed into the DV of 1 twin (DV(stent) group) under ultrasound guidance. Blood flow rates in the umbilical vein (UV) and DV of both fetuses were measured using Doppler ultrasound. Eight pairs of twin fetuses were included for the final analysis. The dilatation of the DV increased the blood flow volume rate passed through the DV from …
