The steroidal module of the Athlete Biological Passport (ABP) aims to detect doping with endogenous steroids, e.g. testosterone (T), by longitudinally monitoring several biomarkers. These biomarkers are ratios combined of urinary concentrations of testosterone and metabolically related steroids. Water pollution caused by organic micropollutants further aggravates the problem, by rendering an already scarce resource unfit for human consumption. The existing conventional wastewater treatment methods and infrastructure were not designed to eliminate micropollutants. Relazioni tra parametri biometrici in Marthasterias glacialis (L.) (Asteroidea)

Biometric parameters of the Asteroid echinoderm Marthasterias glacialis (L.) were measured at Ustica Island MPA (SW Tyrrhenian Sea). Wet weight was correlated with tip-to-tip (arm-span) diameter, central disk, arm length, arm width and arm height. Results show high positive correlation between weight and arm height, suggesting a new useful method to estimate starfish size also for in situ measurements.

Los esteroles vegetales (EV) se adicionan a determinados alimentos debido a su conocido efecto hipocolesterolemiante. Se ha demostrado, mediante numerosos estudios clínicos que el consumo de 2 g de EV/día reduce entre 5-10% las concentraciones séricas de LDL colesterol. La Sociedad Europea de Ateroesclerosis (EAS) indica que es de interés el consumo de alimentos funcionales con EV en pacientes con colesterolemia moderada, así como en personas con riesgo cardiovascular que no estén en tratamiento farmacológico.
