Assessment of spatial perception for a multi-layer volumetric display: the effect of exocentric and egocentric distance on relative depth judgements

Three-dimensional images on multiple depth layers of the volumetric display provide the physiological depth cues which ensure the high precision of depth judgements at close viewing distances and enhance the user experience. Modulation of cortical motor outputs by the symbolic meaning of visual stimuli

The observation of an action modulates motor cortical outputs in specific ways, in part through mediation of the mirror neuron system. Sometimes we infer a meaning to an observed action based on integration of the actual percept with memories. Here, we conducted a series of experiments in healthy adults to investigate whether such inferred meanings can also modulate motor cortical outputs in specific ways. We show that brief observation of a neutral stimulus mimicking a hand does not significantly modulate motor cortical excitability (Study 1) although, after prolonged exposure, it can lead to a relatively nonspecific modulation (Study 2). Attempt to Construct a Scale for the Measurement of the Effect of Suggestion on Perception1

A scale based on experimental methods has been prepared for measuring the effects of indirect suggestion upon perception. Three categories are included: (1) distorting the interpretation of presented stimuli, (2) inducing sense-impressions in the absence of adequate stimuli, and (3) producing insensitivity to stimuli that are objectively present. Test situations were designed for tactual, auditory, and visual perception. The scale was tested on a sample of 112 students from the 11th and 12th grades of a large city high school (58 girls and 54 boys). Tuning host specificity during the ontogeny of a fish ectoparasite: behavioural responses to host-induced cues

The choice between two alternative hosts, brown trout (Salmo trutta) and roach (Rutilus rutilus), and the response to visual and olfactory cues were studied in the ontogeny of Argulus coregoni. The initial preference of the smallest parasites for brighter roach changed at the age of 2 weeks, at the size of about 2 mm, for trout, a typical salmonid host. Younger argulids were attracted by a non-specific visual stimulus (white disc over dark background), and they did not respond to olfactory stimulation (fish-conditioned water). The electroretinogram is the record of the electrical response of the retina to a light stimulus. The two main components are the a-wave and the b-wave, the former is related to the early photoreceptoral activity. Aim of this paper is to acquire useful information about the time-frequency features of the human a-wave, by means of the wavelet analysis.
