Sleep–wake problems in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: implications for patient management

SUMMARY Sleep–wake problems are frequent, although unrecognized, complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Sleep disorders such as insomnia, sleep-disordered breathing and restless legs syndrome have all been reported in patients with ALS, despite the limited number of studies and the small populations investigated so far. Sleep disturbances gradually worsen with disease progression, suggesting a relationship between the severity of disease and the neurodegenerative process. Different sources (epigraphical, literary, apocryphal) can be used to analyse the Christian heretical sects connected to an enkratite movement (Enkratites, Apotactites, Sakkophoroi, Hydroparastatai, Aerians), which was characterised by radical forms of self-restraint (enkrateia). Epigraphical documents are helpful in setting these communities in the rural background of late antique Anatolia (4th-5th cent. AD). On the other side the apocryphal acts of the apostles offer important hints on social and economic ideas developed by Enkratites and throw new light on their specific Christian Weltanschauung.

Association Between Restless Legs Syndrome and Adult ADHD in a German Community-Based Sample

Objective: Previous research in clinical samples indicated a significant association between ADHD and restless legs syndrome (RLS). The present study examined the association between adult ADHD and RLS in the German population. Method: Self-rating instruments to assess RLS, childhood ADHD, and adult ADHD were administered to a community-based sample ( N = 1,632). In addition, current depression and anxiety, sleep disturbances, weight, and height were assessed by self-report. Indirect chronology method employing rare earth elements to identify Sagunto Castle mortar construction periods

A novel indirect chronology method has been developed to identify Sagunto Castle construction periods. The method is based on the use of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) to determine rare earth elements (REE) and other trace elements in mortars. Additionally, a no destructive geochemical analysis based on X-ray fluorescence (XRF) was employed for major elements determination. Collected chemical data were processed through Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to highlight any differences among the mortars belonging to different buildings and construction periods. This paper examines the specificity of the coastline as a natural, cultural and medial boundary and interface. It focuses on how the motif of the coastline is depicted and remediated in the works of English artists Paul Nash and Dave McKean: between 1919 and 1925, as he was coming to terms with the aftermath of the First World War, Nash created a series of pictures depicting Dymchurch on the coast of Kent in England; McKean’s 2016 commemorative graphic novel Black Dog: The Dreams of Paul Nash is a biographical exploration of Nash’s youth, of his experience of the war and of his recovery in the immediate post-war period.
