Tehokkuuserot tekonivel- ja polvileikkauksissa : tuloksia StoNED-menetelmän sovelluksesta
2012
Tämän tutkimuksen tavoite oli selvittää, voidaanko DEA- ja SFA-menetelmien ominaisuuksia yhdistävää Stochastic non-smooth envelopment of data (StoNED)- menetelmää käyttää terveydenhuollon tehokkuusanalyysiin. Tämän selvittämiseksi luotiin katsaus lonkan, polven ja nilkan tekonivelleikkausten sekä lyhythoitoisten polvileikkausten tuotannon kustannustehokkuuteen Manner-Suomen sairaanhoitopiireissä vuonna 2010. Lisäksi tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin kyseisten leikkausten tuotantomäärissä ja tuotantoon liittyvissä laskennallisissa kustannuksissa tapahtuneita muutoksia aikavälillä 2006-2010. Kustannustehokkuuden tutkimiseksi tuotettiin StoNED-menetelmän empiirinen sovellus, jossa panosmuuttujana kä…
The thermal performances of historic masonry: In-situ measurements of thermal conductance on calcarenite stone walls in Palermo
2018
Abstract Rich literature explores materials and construction techniques of historic buildings, but limited information is available about the thermal and hygrometric features of their envelope. Nevertheless, accurate hygrothermal data are essential for identifying effective energy upgrade measures, which must be compatible with the conservation of the architectural heritage. In order to fill this gap, it is necessary to refer to local contexts, where the variety of historic buildings is limited and their material and construction features are comparable. This paper focuses on historic masonry walls and discusses the results of twenty in-situ measurements of thermal conductance, performed al…
The synergistic effect exerted by the HDAC inhibitor SAHA and the sesquiterpene lactone parthenolide on triple negative breast canc er cells
2014
Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a subtype o f breast cancer, insensitive to endocrine therapy. Chemotherapy is the main form of treatment, but is accompanied by a high rate of recidivism. The sesquiterpene lactone Parthenolide (PN) exerts a cy totoxic effect on MDA-MB231 cells, a TNBC cell line (1), but was ineffective at low doses (2-5μM). This repr esents an obstacle for a therapeutic utilization of PN. We supposed, in line with other authors (2), that PN c auses a protective response, which at low doses pre vails on the cytotoxic effect. With the aim of inhibiting this protective effect we have shown that pre-trea tment of MDA-MB231 cells with SAHA (2-5μM), an histone deace tylat…
Dry stone buildings in Sicily. An environmental and territorial resource
2013
Dry stone constructions are widespread throughout many regions across the world, in a wide variety of forms, according to the environmental and socio-economic contexts, and constitute a valuable know-how which is today in danger of disappearing. In Sicily dry stone works have traditionally been used in the area of Val di Noto where they constitute a key character of the landscape, and in the Madonie Mounts in which some policies of enhancement have been recently initiated. In the framework of the Grundtvig programme “La préservation du patrimoine architectural bâti en pierre sèche”, an in-depth analysis of these architectures have been pursued, aiming to create a database inventory. This pa…
Baculovirus-mediated immediate-early gene expression and nuclear reorganization in human cells
2007
Baculovirus, Autographa californica multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus (AcMNPV), has the ability to transduce mammalian cell lines without replication. The general objective of this study was to detect the transcription and expression of viral immediate-early genes in human cells and to examine the interactions between viral components and subnuclear structures. Viral capsids were seen in large, discrete foci in nuclei of both dividing and non-dividing human cells. Concurrently, the transcription of viral immediate-early transregulator genes (ie-1, ie-2) and translation of IE-2 protein were detected. Quantitative microscopy imaging and analysis showed that virus transduction altered the size of …
An Upper Mississippian echinoderm microfauna from the Genicera Formation of northern León (Carboniferous, Cantabrian Mountains, N Spain)
2020
For the first time an echinoderm microfauna is recorded from the cephalopod limestone facies (‘griotte facies’) of the lower Carboniferous (Mississippian) Genicera Fm. (Alba Fm.). The formation is widespread in the Cantabrian Mountains in NW Spain, but the ossicles are from some sections in the surroundings of the Bernesga valley in northern León. They have been derived from insoluble acetic acid residues from samples of the upper and especially of the uppermost part of the formation (Canalón Mb. and Millaró Beds). The microfauna include taxonomically treated wheel-shaped ossicles, sieve-plates and rods of holothurians, goniodonts of ophiocistioids, and ophiuroid and stenuroid skeletal elem…
Le lave. Gli usi ornamentali nell'architettura storica in Sicilia
2012
