Strangeness of the nucleon
2005
Abstract Strangeness observables of the nucleon are discussed. Emphasis is put on the strange vector form factors as they are measured in current parity violating electron scattering experiments. Recent results are presented and the evidence for non-vanishing strangeness contributions is shown.

Search for supermassive nuclei in nature
1991
We report on a search for supermassive nuclei in nature with masses up to 107 amu. Such exotic nuclei might consist, for example, of stable strange matter, which comprises a mixture of up, down, and strange quarks, or of relic particles from the early Universe. The experiments are based on Rutherford backscattering of heavy ions, preferably238U, from various target samples. The measured parameters of a detected particle are its time-of-flight, scattering angle, and specific ionization. From this information the mass of the target nucleus can be inferred. Upper limits for the abundance of strange supermassive nuclei with massesA−4·102 to 107 amu relative to the number of nucleons were found …
Probing hypernuclei at $$ \bar P $$ anda and at MAMI-C
2008
Spectroscopy of Λ hypernuclei has recently become one of the most valuable tools for the experimental investigation of strangeness nuclear physics. Several new approached are being pursued currently: In Mainz, the Microtron MAMI has been upgraded to 1.5 GeV electron beam energy and will be used to produce strange hadronic systems in the near future. The KaoS spectrometer is being installed for large acceptance, high resolution strangeness reaction spectroscopy at the existing spectrometer facility. The Mainz hypernuclei research programme will be complemented by experiments on multi-strange systems at the planned FAIR facility at GSI. The γ-ray spectroscopy of double Λ hypernuclei produced …
Hypernuclear physics at $\overline{\mbox{P}}$ ANDA
2012
Hypernuclear research will be one of the main topics addressed by the \(\overline{\mbox{P}}\) anda experiment at the planned Facility for Anti-proton and Ion Research FAIR at Darmstadt, Germany. A copious production of Ξ-hyperons at a dedicated internal target in the stored anti-proton beam is expected, which will enable the high-precision γ-spectroscopy of double strange systems for the first time. In addition to the general purpose \(\overline{\mbox{P}}\) anda setup, the hypernuclear experiments require an active secondary target of silicon layers and absorber material as well as high purity germanium (HPGe) crystals as γ-detectors. The design of the setup and the development of these det…

Formation Of Hypernuclei In Evaporation And Fission Processes
2016
There are excellent opportunities to produce excited heavy hyper residues in relativistic hadron and peripheral heavy-ion collisions. We investigate the disintegration of such residues into hyper nuclei via evaporation of baryons and light clusters and their fission. Previously these processes were well known for normal nuclei as the decay channels at low excitation energies. We have generalized these models for the case of hyper-matter. In this way we make extension of nuclear reaction studies at low temperature into the strange sector. We demonstrate how the new decay channels can be integrated in the whole disintegration process. Their importance for mass and isotope distributions of pro…
