Investigation of the p–Σ0 interaction via femtoscopy in pp collisions

2020

This Letter presents the first direct investigation of the p-$\Sigma^{0}$ interaction, using the femtoscopy technique in high-multiplicity pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 13 TeV measured by the ALICE detector. The $\Sigma^{0}$ is reconstructed via the decay channel to $\Lambda \gamma$, and the subsequent decay of $\Lambda$ to p$\pi^-$. The photon is detected via the conversion in material to e$^{+}$e$^{-}$ pairs exploiting the unique capability of the ALICE detector to measure electrons at low transverse momenta. The measured p-$\Sigma^{0}$ correlation indicates a shallow strong interaction. The comparison of the data to several theoretical predictions obtained employing the $Correlation~Anal…

Scattering Studies with Low-Energy Kaon-Proton Femtoscopy in Proton-Proton Collisions at the LHC

2020

The study of the strength and behaviour of the antikaon-nucleon ($\mathrm{\overline{K}N}$) interaction constitutes one of the key focuses of the strangeness sector in low-energy Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). In this letter a unique high-precision measurement of the strong interaction between kaons and protons, close and above the kinematic threshold, is presented. The femtoscopic measurements of the correlation function at low pair-frame relative momentum of (K$^+$ p $\oplus$ K$^-$ $\overline{\mathrm{p}}$) and (K$^-$ p $\oplus$ K$^+$ $\overline{\mathrm{p}}$) pairs measured in pp collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 5, 7 and 13 TeV are reported. A structure observed around a relative momentum of 58 Me…

Antineutrino induced Λ(1405) production off the proton

2015

We have studied the strangeness-changing antineutrino-induced reactions ${\overline{\ensuremath{\nu}}}_{l}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{l}^{+}\ensuremath{\phi}B$, with $\ensuremath{\phi}B={K}^{\ensuremath{-}}p$, ${\overline{K}}^{0}n$, ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}\ensuremath{\Lambda}$, ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{0}$, $\ensuremath{\eta}\ensuremath{\Lambda}$, $\ensuremath{\eta}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{0}$, ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{+}$, ${K}^{+}{\ensuremath{\Xi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$, and ${K}^{0}{\ensuremath{\Xi}}^{0}$, using a chiral unitary approach. These ten coupled channels are allowed t…

Λb→J/ψKΞdecay and the higher order chiral terms of the meson baryon interaction

2015

We study the weak decay of the ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}}_{b}$ into $J/\ensuremath{\psi}K\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Xi}}$ and $J/\ensuremath{\psi}\ensuremath{\eta}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}$ states, and relate these processes to the ${\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}}_{b}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}J/\ensuremath{\psi}\overline{K}N$ decay mode. The elementary weak transition at the quark level proceeds via the creation of a $J/\ensuremath{\psi}$ meson and an excited $sud$ system with $I=0$, which upon hadronization leads to $\overline{K}N$ or $\ensuremath{\eta}\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Lambda}}$ pairs. These states undergo final-state interaction in coupled channels and produce a final meson-baryon p…

Unpolarized and polarized elementary kaon electroproduction cross sections measured at MAMI

2012

Present and future research into the electroproduction of kaons plays an im- portant role at Mainz Microtron MAMI. With the Kaos spectrometer employed for kaon detection in the multi-spectrometer facility, cross section measurements of the exclusive p(e;e 0 K + ); 0 reactions at low momentum transfers have been performed. Isobar and Regge-plus-resonance models were compared with the data. These measurements have clearly discriminated between e ective Lagrangian models for photo- and electroproduc- tion of strangeness. New experiments with polarized beam at low four-momentum transfer are addressing the imaginary part of the longitudinal-transverse response in this process, that can be separa…

Unveiling the strong interaction among hadrons at the LHC

2020

One of the key challenges for nuclear physics today is to understand from first principles the effective interaction between hadrons with different quark content. First successes have been achieved using techniques that solve the dynamics of quarks and gluons on discrete space-time lattices1,2. Experimentally, the dynamics of the strong interaction have been studied by scattering hadrons off each other. Such scattering experiments are difficult or impossible for unstable hadrons3–6 and so high-quality measurements exist only for hadrons containing up and down quarks7. Here we demonstrate that measuring correlations in the momentum space between hadron pairs8–12 produced in ultrarelativistic…

Do Uncertainty and Fuzziness Present Themselves (and Behave) in the Same Way in Hard and Human Sciences?

2010

In the present paper the question whether uncertainty and fuzziness present themselves and behave in the same way (or not) in hard and human sciences will be briefly discussed. This problem came out from the attempt to answer the question asked by Lotfi Zadeh on the (apparent) strangeness of a very limited use of fuzzy sets in human sciences.

Core-collapse supernova simulations in one and two dimensions: comparison of codes and approximations

2018

We present spherically symmetric (1D) and axisymmetric (2D) supernova simulations for a convection-dominated 9 Msun and a 20 Msun progenitor that develops violent activity by the standing-accretion-shock instability (SASI). We compare in detail the Aenus-Alcar code, which uses fully multidimensional two-moment neutrino transport with an M1 closure, with a ray-by-ray-plus (RbR+) version of this code and with the Prometheus-Vertex code that employs RbR+ two-moment transport with a Boltzmann closure. Besides testing consequences of ignored non-radial neutrino-flux components in the RbR+ approximation, we also discuss the influence of various transport ingredients applied or not applied in rece…

Rapidity correlations in Lambda baryon and proton production in hadronic Z0 decays

1998

In an analysis of multihadronic events recorded at LEP by DELPHI in the years 1992 through 1994, charged hadrons are identified using the measurement of their energy loss and their Cherenkov angle. Rapidity correlations of \La-\La, proton-proton, and \La-proton pairs are compared. The agreement with the string and cluster fragmentation models is tested. For those pairs that frame a meson in terms of rapidity the compensation of strangeness is studied. For \La{}$\overline{\mathrm{p}}$ pairs the additional correlation with respect to charged kaons is analysed.

Probing chemical freeze-out criteria in relativistic nuclear collisions with coarse grained transport simulations

2020

We introduce a novel approach based on elastic and inelastic scattering rates to extract the hyper-surface of the chemical freeze-out from a hadronic transport model in the energy range from E$_\mathrm{lab}=1.23$ AGeV to $\sqrt{s_\mathrm{NN}}=62.4$ GeV. For this study, the Ultra-relativistic Quantum Molecular Dynamics (UrQMD) model combined with a coarse-graining method is employed. The chemical freeze-out distribution is reconstructed from the pions through several decay and re-formation chains involving resonances and taking into account inelastic, pseudo-elastic and string excitation reactions. The extracted average temperature and baryon chemical potential are then compared to statistic…
