The Nature of Knowledge and Decisions on Activity Sourcing: An Innovation Model

2006

The main drivers for R& D collaboration uncovered by the economic literature are the access to external cognitive capabilities and costs. Very seldom the nature of knowledge has been considered a determining factor for activity externalisation. This paper analyses the role of the nature of knowledge in the locus of innovation. Then, a knowledge management model for the internalisation of innovative activities is developed. The model proposed allows executives to summarize their strategic reflection about innovation, leading to a more coherent decision making process. The research is implemented to the innovative activities performed by Spanish firms in the agro-chemical industry. The empiri…

Pianificazione strategica tra sviluppo locale e policentrismo: alcune evidenze empiriche sul caso siciliano

2009

Strategic planning, local development and policentrism: empirical evidence for Sicily The aim of this paper is the analysis of metropolitan strategic planning in Sicily. Evidence of a policentric pattern is tested across 30 strategic plans carried out by Sicilian cities in order to derive useful insights for policy implications. Methods and Results This study uses multidimensional scaling and rank-size regressions across Sicilian Functional Urban Areas (FUA) as well as descriptive information drawn from strategic plans in order to identify …

A Genre-Based Method for Information Systems Planning

2001

Currently, corporations implement diversified computer-based information systems (IS). These include organization-scale solutions such as enterprise resource planning systems, inter-, extra-, and intranet applications, product data management, and enterprise document management systems. At the same time, the end user is ever more capable of rapidly developing and tailoring small-scale applications for groups, organizational units, and personal purposes independently (Grover, Teng, and Fiedler, 1998). Furthermore, corporations are investing in information technology infrastructures that take full advantage of global networking and business process re-engineering (Broadbent and Weill, 1997; G…

Strategic Planning for Integrated Mobility-on-Demand and Urban Public Bus Networks

2020

App-based services and ridesharing in the field of mobility-on-demand (MoD) create a new mode of transport between motorized individual transport and public transportation whose long-term role in the urban mobility landscape and within public transport systems is not fully understood as of today. For the public transport industry, these new services offer new chances but also risks, making planning models and tools for integrated intermodal network planning indispensable. We develop a strategic network planning optimization model for bus lines that allows for intermodal trips with MoD as a first or last leg. Starting from an existing public transport network, we decide simultaneously on th…

2020

The funding crisis of Public Service Media (PSM) is also a crisis affecting its legitimacy, business model, audience, innovation and transformation required to adapt to the current digital ecosystem, which is dominated by the changes in the access and consumption ways available to citizens, as well as by the new telecommunications global players. Eleven European countries have cut back the budgets of their public service media organizations during the past five years, and those which haven’t done it yet are facing adjustment plans until 2020. Besides financial pressures, European PSM is also facing increasing opposition from private operators, populist parties and the constant appetite for …

Bridging Strategic Project Planning with Tactical Planning in the Design Process

2020

The paper studies the issue of bridging strategic planning with tactical/operative planning in the design process of complex AEC-projects. The paper present user-friendly planning methods on a tactical level which gives the planner intuitive control over dependent, independent, and interdependent tasks during the design process. In our understanding the planning process starts at the strategic level using integrated milestones as a prerequisite for handling progress and strategic coordination in projects. Moving forward in the planning process towards the operative level, the process requires flexible and agile methods which ensures robustness in the various plans that must be made. In this…

The strategy formation process in the EFQM Excellence Model: a critical review and new perspectives

2011

The adoption of an integrative strategy formation process becomes a way of developing a strategic capability that contributes to generating positive results and sustainable competitive advantages. In today's environments, many companies are also using the EFQM Excellence Model (EEM) to try to develop such a strategic capability. This paper presents an exhaustive review of the literature on the strategic process debate and on the strategic capability of the EEM. As a result, we offer to practitioners a conceptual framework which shows the EEM as a useful driver to facilitate the development of an integrative strategy formation process, and we propose a set of dimensions and variables (the le…

2010

International audience; This paper analyses the strategic management accounting concept with an instrumental point of view. The second part exposes a taxonomy of the reasons why using the ABC method. In a third part, we confront our developments to th…
