Brand image transfer from team to sponsor: how effective is it to sponsor a football team with little success
2019
We propose to explore the influence of success in sports on the effect of image transfer in sponsorship. We analysed three football teams based on their historical ranking. The image transfer does not occur with the less successful team. We conclude that sports sponsors need to reconsider their strategic options to align them with their company goals and to promote a return on investment. An ideal strategy to enhance the brand image would be to sponsor more successful sports teams because it has been shown that those teams that have more victories get greater exposure and therefore the ROI for sponsors increase.
Planning Innovation and Regional Development: the Spreading of Urban Strategic Planning in Southern Italy
2011
Spatial planning in Italy has experienced significant processes of inno- vation in the last 15 years, due to the growing devolution of powers from the national level both in legislative and operational terms. The paper aims to reconstruct the evolution of regional planning in Sicily, a region of the Italian Mezzogiorno which has experienced significant autonomy in the field of urban and regional policy. Through a critical review of the planning experiences carried out by various sectors of the regional administration, the paper discusses some critical question in the relationship between urban planning and sectoral planning and the role of physical planning in address- ing the regional deve…
Entstehen und Scheitern Strategischer Allianzen in der Telekommunikationsbranche
2001
Hungenberg (1998) has shown in this journal that strategic alliances have become an important strategic instrument in the telecommunications industry. Building up on this investigation we analyze the motives for the formation and failure of strategic alliances on the basis of a content analysis of the business newspaper “Handelsblatt” from 1995–1997. We show that in the telecommunications sector access to know-how and other resources as well as market access are the primary motives for the formation of strategic alliances. In contrast to other industries, cost and time advantages as motives are not relevant at all. The primary reason for the failure of strategic alliances was strategic reor…
Productivity change of the Spanish Port System: impact of the economic crisis
2016
The main goal of this study was to assess the impact of the economic crisis on the productivity growth of the Spanish Port System (SPS). The Malmquist Productivity Index (MPI) was estimated for the 28 Port Authorities of the SPS, for a 'non-crisis period' (2005-2008) and a 'crisis period' (2008-2011). From a policy perspective, the MPI is a very useful approach for assessing the productivity change because it can be decomposed into the catching-up index and the frontier productivity index. The results showed that the economic crisis did not impact all of the Spanish Port Authorities equally. Some Port Authorities presented higher productivity growth during the crisis period than in the non-…

Informative model for national development management
2010
Strategic planning experience shows the major problem of the national planning system - plan- ning documents are faintly intercorrelative (including aspects "from long-term to short-term" and "from general to concrete"), as well non-linked with managing and implementing institutions (public sector func- tions and services) and budgetary appropriation. It creates huge barriers to carry out plans. Structurization of all system's objects in logical units and determination of strict interrelations between them is the pro- posed solution of the problem. Informative model of planning system have to be developed as depository of logical units and their interlinkage. It becomes possible to manage i…
Palermo: Living Labs for Urban Regeneration
2016
The case of Palermo is described in this chapter as an example of Human Smart City (HSC) approach transferred to an extremely weak urban context in Southern Italy. The case focuses on the processes boosted through the Territorial Living Lab established in the city to tackle the topic of citizen participation in the solution of the main city challenges. It was based on a model of incremental and adaptive process of interaction, within a co-creative ecosystem, with the aim of improving housing quality. The model was shared by the players involved in the social innovation process. It would not have been possible without the Living Lab approach and the innovative momentum of design thinking tra…
Moderating Influences on the Firm's Strategic Orientation-Performance Relationship
2008
This article is focused on the factors that moderate the relationship between firm's strategic orientation and performance in small and medium-sized firms. Much prior research has focused simply on identifying environmental conditions conducive to the effectiveness of the strategic orientation approach. However, recent research has called for studies focused on investigating internal moderators of the strategic orientation-performance relationship. As a result, we propose a contingency framework, considering how corporate and competitive strategies, top management characteristics, and environmental conditions may moderate this relationship. Based on a survey of 295 small and medium-sized en…
Information systems and strategy design
1999
Abstract Strategic thinking forms a wide-ranking, complex area of thought. It also seems to be an extremely interesting and important field in both management practice and literature. Recently, the areas that the different functions (like accounting, marketing, production and information systems) of firm and strategic thinking have in common have been lively discussed. In this paper, the applicability of information systems thinking to strategic thinking is outlined. For that purpose, three modes of strategy-making are explicated: strategy-making as management process, as game-playing and as leadership. In each of these three modes, the strategy design phase and especially the essentials of…
