Abstract This paper assesses the potential energy and environmental impacts of an anaerobic digester coupled with a combined heat and power plant powered with bio-wastes from the agri-food sector. The analysis is carried out through the Life Cycle Assessment methodology following a “cradle-to-grave” approach and is based mostly on primary data. Regions with high livestock density lack sufficient land on which to apply manure without exceeding the legal limits set by the European Union Directives. The lack of manure processing alternatives aggravates the situation, especially in the case of islands. Consequently, manure becomes a liability rather than an asset. Results indicate that pyrolysis is an option for manure processing. However, a significant limitation is the moisture content of the starting material, that could compromise the process efficiency. Performance analysis and comparison of symmetrical and asymmetrical configurations of evanescent mode ridge waveguide filters

[1] In this paper, the trade-offs between out-of-band performance, filter length, power-handling capability, and insertion loss of both symmetrical and asymmetrical evanescent mode ridge rectangular waveguide filters are investigated. As a result, clear design methodologies for optimizing such performances are proposed. The developed methodologies are then applied to design several evanescent mode filters, and a complete performance analysis of the symmetrical and asymmetrical structures is performed. From the performance analysis results, the designer can choose the more appropriate filter topology and design strategy to satisfy the prescribed specifications.

Do upscale restaurant owners use wine lists as a differentiation strategy?

Abstract The present paper studies various criteria used by upscale restaurant owners to differentiate their restaurants and to define their positioning. In particular, we studied several wine list attributes. Through a cluster analysis and a correspondence factor analysis based on different objective wine list characteristics, we obtain two main differentiated profiles of restaurants according to the relative importance of their wine list in comparison with food menu: wine selection and complementarity. Upscale restaurants need to define their positioning strategy and elaborate their wine lists according to their strategy.
Sustainable architecture for wine cellars

Environmental sustainability in the wine sector is one of the major factors of commercial interest for consumers and producing companies. The link between wine production, territory and architectural typology of wine cellars is always more important for the food and wine sector. This work explores the connections between architecture and energy efficiency with regards to minimizing environmental impacts in wine production and the sustainable use of resources in production processes. The role of economic and cultural promotion of wine cellars with bioclimatic architecture towards the tourism industry is highlighted.
