Collezioni visive negli spazi urbani: i luoghi della street art a Parigi | Visual Collections in Urban Spaces: the Sites of Street Art in Paris
2017
With its different forms, styles and ways of execution, Street Art is one of the visual culture languages that are now increasingly present in urban spaces. From a fleeting action that was often accomplished in an unauthorized manner, it has also established itself as an authorized practice, thus becoming an institutional instrument and a new way of visual redefinition of certain urban areas. The concept of Street Art is by no means unitary, but it could rather be seen as a complex and stratified communicative phenomenon that redefines itself by way of its specific modes of intervention in urban spaces. Starting from a series of observations and micro-analyses conducted in two urban areas o…

The Spatial Overlap of Police Calls Reporting Street-Level and Behind-Closed-Doors Crime: A Bayesian Modeling Approach
2021
Traditionally, intimate-partner violence has been considered a special type of crime that occurs behind closed doors, with different characteristics from street-level crime. The aim of this study is to analyze the spatial overlap of police calls reporting street-level and behind-closed-doors crime. We analyzed geocoded police calls in the 552 census-block groups of the city of Valencia, Spain, related to street-level crime (N = 26,624) and to intimate-partner violence against women (N = 11,673). A Bayesian joint model was run to analyze the spatial overlap. In addition, two Bayesian hierarchical models controlled for different neighborhood characteristics to analyze the relative risks. Resu…
Inconsistencies in the pozzolanic strength activity index (SAI) for silica fume according to EN and ASTM
2014
Published version of an article in the journal: Materials and Structures. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1617/s11527-014-0457-6 Open Access New supplementary cementitious materials claimed to possess pozzolan properties emerge frequently. This development is driven both by economic and environmental pressures. Properties of new materials are compared with those of materials already well known, such as silica fume. Several test methods are standardized for making such comparisons, regulated by both European (EN) and American (ASTM) standards. Standardization indicates that procedures are secured to make comparisons valid and informative. In this article the sensit…
The effect of defect location on coating fragmentation patterns under biaxial tension
2005
Fragmentation of a coating possessing orthogonal preferential crack propagation directions is modeled for equibiaxial tensile loading. Two plausible cracking scenarios are compared, caused by flaws randomly distributed over the area of the coating or along the coating fragment edges. The two fragmentation scenarios considered are shown to yield qualitatively different fragment patterns.
Numerical modelling of bond behaviour in Fabric Reinforced Cementitious Matrix strengthened reinforced concrete members
2022
Fabric Reinforced Cementitious Matrix (FRCM) composites are widely seen as offering advantages in structural retrofitting of existing buildings. In spite of their reputed effectiveness, FRCM systems typically suffers from several drawbacks related to the mechanical characterization due to complex stress transfer mechanicisms that can develop at fiber-matrix and FRCM-substrate interface. Numerous experimental studies focus on this topic, but few numerical studies are addressed to better understand the variables involved in the problem. This paper aims to propose a simple 1D numerical model to predict the shear bond behaviour of FRCM applied on concrete substrate, providing support to deduce …

Internalization of novel non-viral vector TAT-streptavidin into human cells
2007
Background. The cell-penetrating peptide derived from the Human immunodeficiency virus-1 transactivator protein Tat possesses the capacity to promote the effective uptake of various cargo molecules across the plasma membrane in vitro and in vivo. The objective of this study was to characterize the uptake and delivery mechanisms of a novel streptavidin fusion construct, TAT47–57-streptavidin (TAT-SA, 60 kD). SA represents a potentially useful TAT-fusion partner due to its ability to perform as a versatile intracellular delivery vector for a wide array of biotinylated molecules or cargoes. Results. By confocal and immunoelectron microscopy the majority of internalized TAT-SA was shown to accu…
Diazepāma ļoti mazu devu ietekme uz telpisko iemācīšanos un atmiņu alcheimera slimības streptozocīna modeļa žurkām
2018
