Bloodstream Infection Incidence of Different Central Venous Catheters in Neonates: A Descriptive Cohort Study

Central venous catheters (CVCs) in neonates are associated with a risk of central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI). Most reports on the incidence of CLABSI in neonates focus on umbilical venous catheters (UVCs) and peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs). We evaluated the incidence and risk factors for CLABSI in a cohort of neonates with femoral venous catheters (FVCs), UVCs, and PICCs, with a gestational age ≥34 weeks born between January 1, 2006 and June 30, 2013. We included 2,986 neonates with a total of 656 catheters. In Section 2 I discuss some of the factors that may have played a role in causing the crisis and emphasise that supporters of different economic theories will assign different weights to each factor in their analyses. Selection of spawning substratum by European river lampreys (Lampetra fluviatilis) in experimental tanks

The selection of spawning substratum by the river lamprey (Lampetra fluviatilis) was studied in two experimental tanks with different flow conditions. In both tanks, four gravel sizes mixed with 15% sand were available to the test animals. In the tank with the lower current speed, lampreys selected in favour of the finest (2–8 mm) gravel size available against gravel sizes 4–20 mm and 8–40 mm. Abstract In this paper the stage-discharge relationship of a flume with a central baffle is theoretically deduced using the Buckingham-Theorem of the dimensional analysis and the self-similarity theory. The new stage-discharge equation is calibrated by the measurements carried out by Peruginelli and Bonacci using a baffle having a given throat length and five different values of the contraction ratio. Finally, for a given throat length, a relationship linking the discharge with the upstream water depth, the contraction ratio and the contracted width is deduced.

Newspapers and Cross-Level Communications on Social Media : A comparative study of Japan, Korea, and Finland

In order to examine how the same types of social media are perceived and utilized in different national contexts for journalism and news media, we studied mainstream newspapers in three countries where both newspapers and social media are viable: Japan, Korea, and Finland. Our in-depth interviews with journalists indicate both similarities and differences in the three countries.
