Stress with parents and peers: how adolescents from 18 nations cope with relationship stress.

2015

We investigated how adolescents from five regions around the world perceived and coped with parent- and peer-related stress. The study comprised N = 4957 adolescents (mean age of 15.2 years) from 18 countries. The study used self-report measures for stress perception and coping style.Across countries, adolescents perceived parent-related stress to be considerably greater than peer-related stress. They coped less actively with parent-related stress than with peer-related stress. Significant differences emerged with respect to geographic region and key demographic indicators. Adolescents from Eastern European and Western countries had generally quite low levels of stress. Adolescents from South…

Slow crack propagation in polyethylene: determination and prediction

1991

Abstract A model is developed connecting the stress intensity factor KI with the propagation rate d h d t of slow cracks. The model is based on the concept of the chain relaxation capability. Experimental KIversus d h d t data are reported for polyethylenes of varying molecular mass M, density ϱ, initial notch length h0 and at different stress levels σ. Predictions of the theory concerning the effect of each of these parameters on crack propagation are confirmed by the experimental results. In particular, the equation for KI as a function of d h d t does not contain h0 nor σ. Experimental plots of KIversus d h d t for common M but different h0 values coincide into a single curve. Also plots…

The impact of a mindfulness‐based intervention on the quality of life of Spanish national police officers

2020

Purpose Police officers belong to a profession with a high risk of stress, burnout and compassion fatigue. Incorporating mindfulness practices into the health and occupational-risk prevention programs run by the national police forces in Spain could provide a new approach to reducing stress and enhancing the psychological and emotional balance of these officers. Methods A 7-week mindfulness-based intervention (MBI) was conducted in a group of 20 national police officers in Mallorca (Spain). Mindfulness, self-compassion, burnout, compassion fatigue, compassion satisfaction and perceived stress were measured and compared before and after the intervention. Results We identified significant dif…

Teacher stress during a school year: Covariance and mean structure analyses

1989

This study examined teacher stress over a school year. A total of 142 teachers made repeated assessments (12 in all) of the stress indicators by answering questionnaires during the school year of 1983–1984. Longitudinal quasi-simplex models and modifications of these were constructed for the analysis of the structural features of the teacher stress process over a school year. By using these models all the stress data could be analysed at the same time in a statistically efficient way. According to the constructed models, teacher stress was a stable process during terms, which meant that the variance in latent stress in the measurements was well explained by the previous measurement. The Chr…

The Professional Stress of Preschool Education Teachers

2018

Zawód nauczyciela można chyba zaliczyć do profesji o dużym ryzyku utraty zdrowia – zarówno w sensie fizycznym (sfera somatyczna), jak i psychicznym.

Influence of stress-level due to self-weight on the hydraulic conductivity of permeable concrete for geotechnical applications

2022

Permeable concrete is effectively used in many fields of civil and environmental engineering, including some geotechnical applications such as drainage piles, deep drainage trenches, and as a permeable backfill material for retaining walls. The principal requirements that a pervious concrete must have for geotechnical applications are those that simultaneously guarantee enough hydraulic conductivity and good filter properties against internal erosion of the soil in which the drains are realised. These requirements can be effectively achieved through special mix-designs in which a non-negligible amount of sand is added to the aggregates, unlike the permeable concretes used for example in the…

Memory performances and personality traits in mothers of children with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome

2019

Background Chronic diseases in pediatric age have been identified as stressful risk factors for parents. Studies on caregivers have documented the impact of chronic parenting stress on emotion and cognition. Aim To investigate the differences between a group of mothers of children affected by obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) for at least 4 years and a group of mothers of typically developing children (TDC) in relation to parental stress, self-esteem, locus of control, and memory performances. Methods A group of 86 mothers (mean age 35.6±4.9, ranged between 32 and 41 years) of children with OSAS diagnosis, and a group of 52 mothers of TDC (mean age 35.9±4.2, ranged between 32 and 41 y…

Testing of a constitutive equation for entangled networks by elongational and shear data of polymer melts

1973

An entangled network such as a polymer melt or a concentrated solution is here described by a set of two simultaneous equations. One of them is a balance of entanglements, the other gives the stress in the classical form of aMaxwell equation.

Ecological Stoichiometry of Bumblebee Castes, Sexes, and Age Groups

2021

Ecological stoichiometry is important for revealing how the composition of chemical elements of organisms is influenced by their physiological functions and ecology. In this study, we investigated the elemental body composition of queens, workers, and males of the bumblebee Bombus terrestris, an important pollinator throughout Eurasia, North America, and northern Africa. Our results showed that body elemental content differs among B. terrestris castes. Young queens and workers had higher body nitrogen concentration than ovipositing queens and males, while castes did not differ significantly in their body carbon concentration. Furthermore, the carbon-to-nitrogen ratio was higher in ovipositi…
