A novel octacyanido dicobalt(iii) building block for the construction of heterometallic compounds

The first bimetallic octacyanido complex of CoIII, (PPh4)2[Co2(μ-2,5-dpp)(CN)8] (1), was synthesized and used as a metalloligand with [Mn(MAC)(H2O)2]Cl2·4H2O to give a new {CoIIIMnII} heterometallic chain of formula [MnII(MAC)(μ-NC)2Co2III(μ-2,5-dpp)(CN)6]n·7nH2O (2) (PPh4+ = tetraphenylphosphonium cation; 2,5-dpp = 2,5-bis(2-pyridyl)pyrazine and MAC = 2,13-dimethyl-3,6,9,12,18-pentaazabicyclo-[12.3.1]octadeca-1(18),2,12,14,16-pentaene). Design and test of a prototype silicon detector module for ATLAS Semiconductor Tracker endcaps

The ATLAS Semiconductor Tracker (SCT) will be a central part of the tracking system of the ATLAS experiment. The SCT consists of four concentric barrels of silicon detectors as well as two silicon endcap detectors formed by nine disks each. The layout of the forward silicon detector module presented in this paper is based on the approved layout of the silicon detectors of the SCT, their geometry and arrangement in disks, but uses otherwise components identical to the barrel modules of the SCT. The Miniball spectrometer

The Miniball germanium detector array has been operational at the REX (Radioactive ion beam EXperiment) post accelerator at the Isotope Separator On-Line facility ISOLDE at CERN since 2001. During the last decade, a series of successful Coulomb excitation and transfer reaction studies have been performed with this array, utilizing the unique and high-quality radioactive ion beams which are available at ISOLDE. Study of the thermal behaviour of ordered bimetallic EDTA complexes

Abstract The study of the thermal behaviour of a family of isostructural ordered bimetallic MM'(EDTA)·6H 2 O complexes has been performed using TG and DTA. Formal kinetic analysis of the dehydration step has been approached using non-isothermal procedures. The resulting correlation among the calculated E a values and the cationic sizes implies a common dehydration mechanism. Copper-containing complexes show distinctive behaviour during the ligand pyrolysis processes. A mechanistic interpretation involving formation of Cu(I) and Cu(0) intermediates is furnished. TASISpec—A highly efficient multi-coincidence spectrometer for nuclear structure investigations of the heaviest nuclei

TASISpec (TASCA in Small Image mode Spectroscopy) combines composite Ge- and Si-detectors for a new detector setup aimed towards multi-coincidence gamma -ray, X-ray, conversion electron, fission fragment, and a-particle spectroscopy of the heaviest nuclei. It exploits the TASCA separator's unique small image focal mode, i.e. the fact that evaporation residues produced in fusion-evaporation reactions can be focused into an area of less than 3 cm in diameter. This provides the possibility to pack detectors in very close geometry, resulting in an unprecedented detection efficiency of radioactive decays in prompt and delayed coincidence with implanted nuclei. Pulsations in the late-type Be star HD 50 209 detected by CoRoT

The presence of pulsations in late-type Be stars is still a matter of controversy. It constitutes an important issue to establish the relationship between non-radial pulsations and the mass-loss mechanism in Be stars. To contribute to this discussion, we analyse the photometric time series of the B8IVe star HD 50209 observed by the CoRoT mission in the seismology field. We use standard Fourier techniques and linear and non-linear least squares fitting methods to analyse the CoRoT light curve. In addition, we applied detailed modelling of high-resolution spectra to obtain the fundamental physical parameters of the star. AX-PET: A novel PET detector concept with full 3D reconstruction

We describe the concept and first experimental tests of a novel 3D axial Positron Emission Tomography (PET) geometry. It allows for a new way of measuring the interaction point in the detector with very high precision. It is based on a matrix of long Lutetium-Yttrium OxyorthoSilicate (LYSO) crystals oriented in the axial direction, each coupled to one Geiger Mode Avalanche Photodiode (G-APD) array. To derive the axial coordinate, Wave Length Shifter (WLS) strips are mounted orthogonally and interleaved between the crystals. The light from the WLS strips is read by custom-made G-APDs.
