Integrated stratigraphy and structural analysis carried out in the Madonie Mts. (Northern Sicily) is aimed to the description of a syn-sedimentary tectonic event, recorded in a small infra-pliocene basin restricted to the Lascari Syncline core. The onset and evolution of the basin was driven by transpressive tectonics, generating a lens-shaped, deep and narrow tectonic depression, bounded by steep and high, tectonically controlled slopes, also reflected in the present-day topography of the area. A catalogue of the vertebrate fossil record from the Guadix-Baza Basin (SE Spain)

In this paper, a catalogue of the vertebrate content of the Guadix-Baza Basin is presented. A total of 93 localities have been reviewed, providing more than 300 vertebrate species. These localities have been included in 11 biochronological units, ranging in age from the late Miocene (MN 13) to the Middle Pleistocene (MmQ 4), including also two MN 10 localities. The best-represented epoch in the Guadix-Baza Basin is the Pliocene (MN 14 to MN 16), with 41 sites. This is followed by the Early Pleistocene (MN17 and MmQ1 to MmQ3) with 30 sites. Generation of Natural Runoff Monthly Series at Ungauged Sites Using a Regional Regressive Model

Many hydrologic applications require reliable estimates of runoff in river basins to face the widespread lack of data, both in time and in space. A regional method for the reconstruction of monthly runoff series is here developed and applied to Sicily (Italy). A simple modeling structure is adopted, consisting of a regression-based rainfall–runoff model with four model parameters, calibrated through a two-step procedure. Monthly runoff estimates are based on precipitation, temperature, and exploiting the autocorrelation with runoff at the previous month. In this paper, a new species of Vasseuromys, V. rambliensis sp. nov., from the locality Pico del Fraile 1 (PF1, Ebro basin, North-eastern Spain) is described. The association of Ligerimys, Peridyromys murinus and Simplomys simplicidens, and the absence of Eucricetodon and Democricetodon, allows dating of the PF1 locality as Late Ramblian (Early Miocene, MN3, local zone A). Main diagnostic features of V. rambliensis sp. nov. are the presence of four extra ridges in the lower molars, a very reduced anterotropid and a metaloph connected to the posteroloph and not to the protocone. The River Platani, situated in the western side of Sicily, is one of the greatest rivers of the island. It runs for about 103 Km and the basin extends to about 1,784.9 Km. It rises near Santo Stefano Quisquina (Ag); the river flows to Capo Bianco (Ag) ends in the Mediterranean Sea. The morphology of the basin is predominantly characterized by rises of modest entities with slopes sweet or calanques. In this paper the fossil content of nine new micromammal bearing localities and that of 15 levels in a borehole from the Loranca Basin (eastern Tague Basin, Prov. of Cuenca) is described. The age ranges from early Arvernian (Late Oligocene) to Turolian (Late Miocene). 47 rodent and lagomorph taxons have been found which are arranged in 8 biostratigraphic units. The Loranca-2 borehole contains 15 fossiliferous levels covering the Upper Oligocene/Lower Miocene. These additional data complete the faunal sequence published by Díaz & López(1919). The Sinemurian gastropod specimens herein studied come from two sources: from museum collections and from samplings in field. The study of the Sinemurian gastropod specimens housed in the collections of the Museu Geológico (Laboratório Nacional de Energia e Geologia), Museu Nacional de História Natural e da Ciência (University of Lisbon), Museu da Ciência (University of Coimbra) and of the Museu de História Natural e da Ciência (University of Porto), has allowed the systematic and taxonomical update of this material.
