In this paper, we present a new branch-and-price-and-cut algorithm to solve the truck-and-trailer routing problem with time windows (TTRPTW) and two real-world extensions. In all TTRPTW variants, the fleet consists of one or more trucks that may attach a trailer. Some customers are not accessible with a truck-and-trailer combination, but can however be serviced by one if the trailer is previously detached and parked at a suitable location. In the first extension, the planning horizon comprises two days and customers may be visited either on both days or only once, in which case twice the daily supply must be collected. This paper presents a branch-and-price-and-cut algorithm for the exact solution of the active-passive vehicle-routing problem (APVRP). The APVRP covers a range of logistics applications where pickup-and-delivery requests necessitate a joint operation of active vehicles (e.g., trucks) and passive vehicles (e.g., loading devices such as containers or swap bodies). The objective is to minimize a weighted sum of the total distance traveled, the total completion time of the routes, and the number of unserved requests. The tire rubber obtained from end-of-life car and truck tires has been successfully recycled, among other applications, in the asphalt industry by providing a mean to get asphalt mixtures with superior performance. Textile fibres are another component derived from tire recycling typically disposed of in landfills or used in energetic valorisation. This paper wants to re-ignite interest in this secondary product by evaluating its use as a valuable resource in asphalt mixtures. Abstract Platooning technology aims at achieving fuel savings by reducing the distance between two or more electronically coupled vehicles. This technology has recently been tested on public highways with heavy trucks in Germany and California. The objective of this study is to assess the level of acceptance among other road users as well as influencing factors of acceptance. The self-reported causes of sleepiness in shift-working tram and truck drivers

Identifying the causes of sleepiness in various safety-critical work environments is neces-sary for implementing more efficient fatigue management strategies. In transportation, little is known about drivers' own perceptions of these causes. Therefore, we instructed shift-working tram (n = 23) and long-haul truck drivers (n = 52) to report at the end of their shifts what made them sleepy if they felt so. These self-reports, measured on-duty sleepiness, and sleep amounts were recorded on every shift over a period of 2-3 weeks per driver. Abstract During earthquakes, infills are subjected to In-Plane (IP) and Out-Of-Plane (OOP) actions. In the case of strong earthquakes, infills may progressively change their mechanical behavior resulting in a reduction of IP and OOP stiffness and strength. Recent earthquakes have proved that the OOP collapse of infills is a diffused mechanism also for buildings designed to resist seismic events in agreement to the most modern codes. This is potentially a very dangerous event with risk for human health. The strong interaction between IP and OOP behavior of infills traduces in a progressive reduction of the OOP strength. Steel fibre and transverse reinforcement effects on the behaviour of high strength concrete beams

An experimental program was carried out to investigate the influence of fibre reinforcement on the mechanical behaviour of high strength reinforced concrete beams. Eighteen beams, loaded in fourpoint bending tests, were examined by applying monotonically increasing controlled displacements and recording the response in terms of load-deflection curves up to failure. The major test variables were the volume fraction of steel fibres and the transverse steel amount for two different values of shear span. Flexural behavior of hybrid glass beams with rectangular cross-sections

Abstract An experimental investigation regarding the flexural and the shear behavior of glass beams with length 900, 1300, 1700 mm and rectangular cross-section is presented and discussed. Rectangular cross-sections were obtained by assembling three float glass panels of depth 200 mm and thickness 6 mm through an acrylic adhesive with an effective depth of 19.52 mm (6 + 0.76 + 6 + 0.76 + 6 mm). Some specimens were also reinforced internally with steel plates of thickness 6 mm and depth 25 mm and thickness 6 mm and plates of thickness 6 mm and depth 50 mm placed at the bottom portion of the beams for the entire length of the beams themselves.
