A very critical issue for stamping operations is the improvement of process robustness. The reliability of final results, in fact, strongly depends on the intrinsic variability due to stochastic behavior of many parameters, namely, operative ones and material properties. Abstract In the present paper the experimental results relative to flexural tests on out-of-plane loaded large scale panels made of laminated structural glass are presented and discussed. Glass panels are parts of the structural facade of the Fontanarossa International Airport of Catania (Italy). Panels are mounted on a rigid testing frame and loaded with an uniformly distributed lateral pressure. In this paper a 2D boundary element model is used to characterize the transient response of a piezoelectric based structural health monitoring system for cracked beam. The BE model is written for piezoelectric non-homogeneous problem employing generalized displacements. The dual reciprocity method is used to write the mass matrix in terms of boundary parameters only. Bending test for capturing the fractional visco-elastic parameters: theoretical and experimental investigation on giant reeds

In this paper attention is devoted on searching a proper model for characterizing the behavior of giant reeds. To aim at this, firstly, meticulous experimental tests have been performed in the Laboratory of structural materials of University of Palermo. Further, the novel aspect of this paper is that of using an advanced Euler-Bernoulli model to fit experimental data of bending tests. Such a model of continuum beam takes into account different constitutive laws of visco-elasticity, being real materials visco-elastic.
Low stiffness variation in structural systems: identification and localization

When a very low damage occurs, the undamaged structural response totally overlaps the damaged one either in time domain or in frequency domain; on the other hand, by considering some characteristics of the analytical signal, such as the phase, it has been possible to develop a damage identification procedure that allows the identification and localization of damage even if the structure experiences multiple damages at the same time. ABAQUS gasket elements are an efficient and flexible tool to study gasket applications. Nevertheless the usage of the ABAQUS gasket elements is not limited to gasket analysis, but it provides an effective improvement in structural analysis. The results point out that both the predicted contact pressure and the predicted stress distribution depend on the mesh topology. Several combinations of mesh dimension and topology are investigated. Mock-up testing facilities and qualification strategy for EU ITER TBMs

European test blanket modules (TBM) for both European blanket concepts, namely the Helium Cooled Lithium Lead (HCLL) and the Helium Cooled Pebble Bed (HCPB), and their auxiliary systems have been designed in the last years. This paper presents the experimental facilities available in Europe for the qualification tests of European TBMs. In particular, devices designed to analyze specific technological issues, for example corrosion under strong magnetic fields or tritium management and extraction, as well as large scale facility to perform integral tests are described. A preliminary overview on the qualification strategy is presented and discussed.
Speed Stochastic Processes and Freeway Reliability Estimation: Evidence from the A22 Freeway, Italy

In this paper, a criterion for predicting the reliability of freeway traffic flow is presented. The idea is based on an analysis of spot speed time series divided into sequences of events of random and homogeneous traffic processes. For each process, the flow rate and density were calculated; then the relationships between parameters of spot speed processes and vehicular density were obtained. On the basis of a comparative study, this paper aims to determine the maximum loads that can occur in operating conditions on the cardanic transmission assembly of motor vehicles in the open or closed loop configurations. The research is conducted under static conditions using finite elements and shows the components with their maximum values obtained in normal operating conditions.
