Didactical Reconstructions in Knowledge Organization and Consolidation in Physics Teacher Education
2020
Physics teachers have an essential role in forming the attitudes and conceptions of future citizens towards science and technology, as well as in educating the future generations of scientists. Therefore, the physics teacher education must guarantee the best available education to pre-service physics teachers; sound knowledge of physics should be combined with a good understanding of the didactical and pedagogical aspects of teaching and learning. The situation is often that after university physics courses, the pre-service physics teachers’ knowledge is still quite fragmented and incoherent. They also often lack the concept formation perspective to physics knowledge. I discuss here a resea…
Fysiikan ja musiikin oppiaineintegrointi lukiotasolla
2014
Fysiikan ja musiikin oppiaineintegraatiosta on vähän tutkimusta, vaikka oppiaineet tarjoavat lukuisia mahdollisuuksia integroinnin toteuttamiseen. Integrointi auttaa tutkitusti muodostamaan opetettavista sisällöistä arjessa sovellettavia merkityksellisiä kokonaisuuksia. Tällöin opetus valmentaa opiskelijaa paremmin elämässä tarvittaviin taitoihin. Integrointi vaatii opettajilta käytännössä paljon, ja kahden aineen sisältöjen ja aikataulujen sovittaminen yhteen on haastavaa. Tämän tutkielman tarkoitus on kartoittaa lukion oppimäärän sisällä olevia integrointimahdollisuuksia ja antaa esimerkkejä integroituvista sisällöistä. Kartoitus perustuu voi-massa olevien opetussuunnitelmien, oppiaineide…
Classroom discussions: Possibilities and limitations for democratic classroom practices
2017
Are students offered possibilities to experience democratic practice in classrooms? Using an analysis of empirical data from classroom discussions in lower secondary school, this article identifies and explores two different types of classroom discussions which give students different positions: a conversation in which students are positioned as ‘poll respondents’, and a more deliberative conversation which positions students as learning debaters. The two forms of classroom discussions are discussed due to the way they give different meaning to democracy, and due to whether the student positions in the classrooms imply contribution to the subject matter and what is considered valuable knowl…
DEVELOPMENT OF A TEST FOR EVALUATING THE CONCEPTUAL KNOWLEDGE OF CHEMICAL EQUILIBRIUM CONSTANT AMONG UNIVERSITY STUDENTS AND ITS APPLICATION TO SPANI…
2014
This article outlines a procedure that was used to develop a written test for evaluating the conceptual knowledge of chemical equilibrium constant among university students. The concepts in the subject matter were carefully defined through propositional statements. Students' understanding of the topic was determined through interviews. These data were used to produce nine multiple choice questions. Each question was designed to identify misconceptions related to the chemical equilibrium constant. The test was evaluated by foure associate professors and was administred to a total of 196 spanish university students. This test has a Cronbach's alpha reliability of 0.63 and its content validity…
