Les populations périurbaines face à l'automobile en grande couronne francilienne
2007
The present article is attempting to identify if the automobile, which took part in development of periurban spaces but which causes strong disparities of mobility between households, according to their incomes and of their age, leads to exclude an increasing part of the population in this spaces. We looked more closely into not-motorized population but also motorized households, of modest income or older age, for which cost or physical requirements of automobile mobility are too high. Our results show that number of not-motorized households, most strongly marginalized, decrease in particular in periurban territories most dependent on car, in spite high level of unemployment and ageing of p…
Common Stocks. Urban peripheries, social innovation and urban regeneration
2020
The peripheries have been considered over the years as a crucial policy challenge that has oriented policies and strategies at different levels of government. On the other hand, measures that stimulate local contexts to develop specific policies have assumed an extremely episodic and unpredictable character in which the public debate on urban regeneration has remained largely dominated by that of extraordinary and emergency intervention on the peripheries. The paper analyses the case study of transformation of the Cantieri Culturali alla Zisa in Palermo with the new Cre.Zi Plus platform transforming a neglected and abandoned building in a peripheral area by delivering services to the commun…
Rileggendo la città: le recenti trasformazioni del commercio a Catania
2016
This paper aims at scrutinizing the evolution of the retail sector and, consequently, of retailscapes in a Southern Italy city, Catania. Starting from the outputs of an empirical place-based research project carried out by the authors in the mid ’2000s, the work deepens the recent transformations occurred both in the central areas and in the suburbs, in order to explore the processes and dynamics – produced by and within the retail field – which have been shaping urban morphology and socio-economic functions in the last decade.
Demand Responsive Transport Services for Improving the Public Transport in Suburban Areas
2022
Suburbs suffer from isolation from densely populated urban centers due to the poor performance of traditional public transport services such as buses. This isolation worsens the quality of life of the residents of these areas, with related problems of social exclusion. One of the possible solutions to meet the mobility needs of these people is a flexible service such as Demand Responsive Transport (DRT) systems. This article assessed the effectiveness of a DRT service as a feeder transit service, assuming a connection of three suburban districts of Palermo, Italy, with a Railway Line station. Thanks to a Revealed Preferences (RP) and Stated Preferences (SP) survey campaign, both the current…
Modelli e approcci innovativi di restauro urbano e architettonico
2016
The essay proposes a contribution, from within the discipline of restoration, but at the same time open to interdisciplinarity, on operations in new territorial areas - peripheries, degraded centers. Restoration has the possibility of influencing them, nurturing new perspectives based on an ethical dimension, aimed at safeguarding - in the processes of regeneration - values such as the promotion of the person, the cultural dimension of development, the quality of life. The reflection engages on two concrete experiences of research and third mission operated on the Palermo outskirts of Brancaccio and on the town of Favara, in the province of Agrigento.
