THE SUCCESS FACTORS OF A SICILIAN MARKET-ORIENTED WINE COOPERATIVE
2014
Wine cooperatives have a long tradition in Sicily, as well as in Italy and in Europe. The objective of this paper is to reconstruct the general framework of the Sicilian wine cooperatives that still account for nearly 80% of the regional wine grapes production. In this context we examine the productive, organizational and commercial strategies of a case study: Cantine Settesoli. Founded in Menfi (Western Sicily, Italy) in 1958 on the initiative of a group of wine grape-growers, the Cantine Settesoli has developed over the decades and now represents the major bottled wine cooperative in Sicily, whose 2,135 members own 5% of Sicilian vineyards. With its four wine-making plants, a volume of gr…
The Zero Violence Brave Club: A Successful Intervention to Prevent and Address Bullying in Schools
2021
Bullying among peers in schools is a growing problem affecting children and adolescents from an early age worldwide. The consequences of bullying victimization in the emotional development of children and youth and their academic achievement are adverse for them and the rest of the school community, with its negative impact extending into the mid and long run. The Zero Violence Brave Club is implemented in schools in the framework of the Dialogic Model of Violence Prevention, a successful educational action according to the INCLUD-ED project [Strategies for inclusion and social cohesion in Europe from Education] (6th Framework Program of Research of the European Commission). The Zero Violen…

ECO-generation for some restricted classes of compositions
2013
International audience; We study several restricted classes of compositions by giving one-to-one maps between them and different classes of restricted binary strings or pattern avoiding permutations. Inspired by the ECO method, new succession rules for these classes are presented. Finally, we obtain generating algorithms in Constant Amortized Time (CAT) for theses classes.
Millennial-scale terrestrial ecosystem responses to Upper Pleistocene climatic changes: 4D-reconstruction of the Schwalbenberg Loess-Palaeosol-Sequen…
2021
Abstract Loess-Palaeosol-Sequences (LPS) in the Central European region provide outstanding terrestrial polygenetic and multiphase archives responding to past climate and environments over various spatial and temporal scales. As yet, however, the geomorphological and pedogenic processes involved in LPS formation, and their interplay with changes in ecological conditions, impede robust correlation with other palaeoenvironmental archives. The Schwalbenberg LPS, which drape a hillslope in the Middle Rhine Valley in western Central Europe, provide unique high-resolution records highly suitable for investigating the processes involved in their formation and the relationship to climatic influence…
Importance of seeds in the process of common ragweed invasion
2012
International audience; Ambrosia artemisiifolia L. (common ragweed) was introduced into Europe at the end of the 1900s and is now present in several European countries. This annual invasive plant produces seeds that are highly polymorphic. Common ragweed can produce only a few thousand highly viable seeds. Many studies have focused on the seed stage. Greater seedling emergence for the seeds placed near the soil surface could explain the success of this species in open habitats, where the probability of deeper burial is low. Emergence percentage was found to decrease as burial depth increased from 2 to 8 cm, and no germination nor seedling emergence was observed for the seeds buried from 10-…
